Several members recently complained to me because dogs in their pedigree could not be found on PDB. Seriously!!!... PDB does not contain all the dogs in the world. It has dogs that members have entered. If the dogs are not on PDB, then you have to enter them.

You also need to include as much information as you have available. The date of birth and breed book and registration number are very important. Many members must think that PDB is connected to some magical database in the sky because they only enter a name, yet when they look at the dog later on, its information is there.... so they expect this all the time. This data is entered by the Admins (like me). We work many hours each day (FOR FREE) entering information on dogs. We do it to make PDB a better, more accurate database...... but personally, I am getting very tired of seeing the same people (many of them breeders who surely have the information) enter dog after dog after dog.... with only a name.

I will continue to help people, and I will add information, but I have decided that from now on, if you do not enter the dog and his sire and dams information, I will send you a PM asking you to do so, and if you do not..... then the dogs may be cancelled by me. The rules are

This does not apply to dogs who were born many years ago...... for example before 1990, as people may have an old pedigree with only names.

P.S.  Yes.... I am frustrated.

Thanks Hundmutter and also others who replied to me privately.
I really do enjoy working on PDB, but sometimes I just can't understand why members think that anyone would find a list of just dog names valuable to anyone but themselves. Are they really trying to be helpful or are they doing it to pump up their ego when they see their dogs names listed? Are they using it to scam members?

After I wrote the last post, I thought...Maybe I should create a list of members who always enter dogs with lots of information which is helpful to PDB's other members. Who are really trying to help others to improve the breed. And then I thought about all the other ways that people help/hinder the list.

There are the members who contribute valuable answers to the forums... versus those who only bitch and complain and try to denigrate anyone elses thoughts.

And of course we have the classifieds where good breeders sell their dogs... but once again, we have the scammers who are only trying to steal money from members or get rid of some poor unhealthy dog that they have bred.

So maybe we need two lists. The Good list and the Bad(Deplorable) list. That would be great.. but then realistically the "Bad Hombres" would probably mess up the lists and make a mockery of them.
I'm done...... but again ..THANKS to those of you that replied to me.
guess I will just remain

Here is a perfect example. In approximately the last 50 minutes, member Dog???? entered 21 GSD's and Australian shepherds.... names only. I sent this message, but I doubt that it will do any good.

They are AKC dogs so

I could look each one up and enter the information.

I could ignore them

I could delete them.

But I think it is time for me to quit posting about this now .....  Thanks for listening.

You just entered 21 dogs (GSD's and Aussies)  on PDB....... name only.
The rules are that you must have the dogs name, date of birth, breed book and registration number.
You must enter this information or the dogs will be deleted.
PDB is not a name list. It is a pedigree database which means that it contains valuable information for breeders to use in assessing dogs that they might use in their breeding programs.

I really need some help I made a mistake entering my male dogs name and I can't change it. It is Sniper XXLL and I entered it as Sniper XXII. I tried to delete him and my female and reenter it correctly but when I did it just popped back up. My male is entered into the system now but the wrong name is listed as the sire to my female,Reyna Grace. I don't know how to change it and I don't know how to private message you. I have never used PDC and could really use a little help. I promise not to keep bothering you. Thanks in advance

Actually you entered the dogs name correctly. It should be Sniper XXII.
The AKC does not allow duplicate names,. There are many people who wanted to call their dog Sniper, so the AKC uses Roman Numerals to distinguish them
XXII means 22 in Roman Numerals.
XXLL is wrong.

Perhaps you could put up a list of dogs you need more info on, and provide the name and number and studbook publication date if available, for these dogs. I have AKC GSD studbooks from Aug 2004 (the last month that AKC published the studbook and allowed subscribers to buy it) back to 1940 and Zuchtbuchs back to 1952 and I'm sure other people have studbooks also. This would enable other people and myself to look up dogs and enter missing information on dogs and their parents/ancestors for you. I also have photos of GSDs from long ago and have put up numerous photos of dogs on their pedigrees which previously had no photos.
