This is my new puppy http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/dog.html?id=2539298-miklins-allee She is almost 5 months old now. My friend and I are disagreeing on if she is a bicolor or blanket. I say blanket. She does seem to have tar heels but no tar toes. Her belly is all black. Can anyone tell which she will be or do I just have to wait until she is older to find out? :)

Looks like bicolor to me.

While I would call that a Bicolour at the moment, I would also point out that she has not yet reached adulthood in this picture and could still change - which if the gold on her legs spreads any more, will leave her a Blanket-back.

Looks like a copy of her mother

Yes, you just have to wait & see.

However, as she has already lost her toe-pencilling, she is most likely to lose her tar-heel also.

Blanket, looking at the pedigree she would've had to inherit a recessive all the way from Aly vom Vordersteinwald in order to be a bicolor...but it's possible in theory.

She will likely look like great grandma Satoris Yolly. Bicolor is more of a pattern than a color .. I have a bicolor male and he does not seem to care.

Has she had any decrease in the black coverage since 8 weeks?

Not sure at this age. Could go either way I think.

Did anyone notice the solid black sire from sables. Am I wrong to believe black is recessive and looking at the pedigree there doesn't appear to be a solid black for a few generations or more. I guess it's possible they both carry the gene still but isn't that less likely for that many generations? I'm just curious...

Yes k9trainersj, I have also noticed that. Well, it's possible they both carry the recessive, but that's very unlikely.

The more likely reason could be.......Wink Smile
