I'm sure this has been posted somewhere. Would someone please explain what the numbers (ex. 5-3 X von der XXX) mean when posted with mating outcome? What I gather is, these are common to both dogs in the 5th or 3rd generation?? And what would be desirable? TIA

It means that the dog was linebred on the dog in the fifth generation on the sire's side and third generation on the dam's side.

For example, Aly vom Vordersteinwald was a dog I've seen linebred on quite a bit.

If he shows up 5-5,5 on my dog's pedigree, that means he's in the fifth generation for my dog's sire once and he's in my dog's dam's fifth generation twice.

It just shows how inbred dogs are on certain dogs. Some dogs you don't want to heavily inbreed on because it can cause problems.
