Ok so yesterday I had all 3 Shepherds going for our routine river walk. 1 male & 2 females one of which is 7 month old puppy. The other 2 are litter mates. We encountered some vultures alongside the road . They all immediately noticed the birds of course. They were huge & nasty looking 😝 in a split second Anka turned on Beauty and attacked her. She had one of those plastic training collars on , not a prong collar I did however Yank the lead back & screamed & she stopped. However Beauty did not cower , I suppose she had no choice. She seems fine today & is her usual playful self. We have already been out today & did some training , everything seems fine. Will this incident harm her emotionally? I took Anka in when she was about 5 months old & shes actually a sweet girl & knows her basic commands. My friend says she has redirected anger issues. And a few other things , Does anyone have any suggestions ? Should I keep the 2 females separated? Oh and we are always out doing things and training the 3 together and it's never happened before. The only thing Anka doesn't do with the others is go to the dog shows . She has a birth defect and some other issues . Thanks kindly for any advice you guys have to offer. Hope my post isn't too long . I didn't want to leave anything out.

The elder female, Anka, might have been pissed off because she wasn´t able to get the birds, and Beauty was there, kind of victim ...
How old is Anka?

The younger one, Beauty, might be in the beginning of her first season, she is no puppy any more, but a future competitor.

Two adult females most often are no fun, you have to take very good care, never let them unsupervised, not even a second, but don´t separate them totally yet - it´s almost impossible to make them used to each other later on - just don´t give them any chance to start a fight ( always on leash, no toys ).

It´s difficult - all the best!

Susie , Anka is 14 months. Yes I will take your advice on never leaving the 2 unsupervised. Which is pretty much what I do now. I think it scared me more than it did Beauty lol ! I thought Anka was going to hurt her & You're right shes not a puppy any more. From now on I wont even walk them together. They will be separated during those types of activities. Thanks for the input

You need to continue walking or having them out together...NOW or NEVER...although if careful you can introduce them as adults...I have a number of females and they all run together...that is...except 1...She's a real BITCH and will start a fight in a heart beat but doesn't start anything if she's with the males...
If your young girl is coming into HEAT she can have your older female start a fight...but we don't know what caused this interaction...Is the older female "food aggressive"? It just seems...from what you said that the vultures caused something...Were they eating...what were they doing?
There is ALWAYS a pecking order in dogs...Males and Females as well...Age has a lot to do with their order and the young will try the older ones...Hormones in both Males and Females...
Males will fight for breeding rites and Females will also fight for the right to breed...In a lot of packs only 1 female is allowed to breed...this is the main female...So you have to know your dogs and how they react and why...Is the 7 month old in HEAT? This will diffidently cause a fight and it CAN happen anywhere...anytime...
Dogs will fight over Breeding Rites and over Objects...and Food...So the best thing is to have them out together but to have control over them...

Anka is not food aggressive at all & the vultures were gathered together in a large group blocking our pathway home. But quickly flew off , as the dogs were all going nuts. Thats when she just turned on Beauty. Anka is spayed but Beauty isn't & she has not come into heat yet. Yes I will continue walking & training them together. Instead of holding both leads I will make sure the 2 females are separated so I have control over the situation. My son had my male & i had the 2 females. Thanks
