Lots of epic arguments here about correct structure/function.

Those on the show side of things will often invoke the extended gaiting as that which enables the true purpose of the breed ie herding, trotting all day.

As evidence we often see still pics of a dog gaiting by sheep at a typically pay to herd all breeds training facility in an enclosure with a small number of dog broke sheep.

Having a look at several HGH titled dogs on another thread it occurred to me an analysis could be performed that costs no money, does not involve trials or anyone to get off their keyboard.

This analysis would NOT be rigorous but suggestive;

Take all the available pics of HGH titled dogs straight off the PDB and compare them structure wise, to top SV dogs and top ASL/AKC dogs.

Any additional motion pics would be a bonus.

I already did it but my opinion is worthless due to my limited time in the breed.

Anyone up for it?

Just curious. Why do you use a chimp instead of s dog in your avatar?

by Bob McKown on 30 March 2016 - 15:03

It,s easier then that even. You want to test proper structure reinstate the 6 foot vertical. Easy peasy. A dog with a overly angulated body and weak rear won,t make it. Along with being able to Run with a flock all day they also had to protect, be agile, have heart, have intelligence and last but not least be able to think on there own.

Mithuna, Why don't you have an avatar? Just curious. I have a hypothesis of my own about a certain member from a certain place on the coast that caused a lot of problems here in the past. I remember the name and general location of that person and I probably am not the only one who knows something about that person, right? Just curious.

It´s still an ape... Wink Smile

VK, over here there is a ( small ) market for HGH dogs, looking like "normal" showline dogs, bred to "flavor of the day" studs. These dogs are able to do their job ( VA Xitta Kirschental was used for daily herding prior to the VA rating ), Karl Füller was a "real" shepherd, but he didn´t make his money with sheep, he soon acknowledged the worth of the "HGH" market, breeding his herding lines to showlines.
He was smart enough to keep ( or buy back ) the best dogs for his breeding stock ( evaluation by working )...

Our annual HGH trial is a blast, 300 sheep, unknown sheep and surrounding for the dogs, a lot of spectators...

GSD, I guess you are talking about Eiko? He was no HGH dog, no matter the ancestry.

Don't know if it translates to GSD but as a general breeder rule here with working dogs breeding pure working lines to pure working lines does not produce working dogs so when you tell me that Fuller crossed with show lines I become skeptical.

There is only one way to certify a working dog and its neither recipe or pedigree.
