So I believe that I may have been duped by a breeder. I am very inexperienced when it comes to the GSD breed but I looked at tons of dogs prior to making my purchase. I ended up buying a dog with the promise of "the papers will be mailed to you soon" anyways 3 months later and I called the breeder and I am getting the run around. The breeder stated that due to the sire being an import that it would take some time to send in DNA to AKC, this is when I called B.S. Anyways I know that I am never going to do anything more than have a pet but I paid for a papered dog and I want the papers. What are my options, based on your expertise what are my route do I take. I was going to start with a letter from my attorney and move on from there, luckily I have unlimited access to legal representation and can milk this out for a long time and become a real pain for them.

Actually there is some truth to the fact that SV is very slow getting paperwork sent to breeders; also has then to go thru AKC. AKC will be able to possibly speed things up for you if you contact them; I would go to AKC.org and find out more information about your dog. Really you have not given us anything to go by for us to help you except that you do not have papers on your supposedly papered dog. BUT best of luck to you Nan

My last litter from imports took 8 months for the papers.  Might be longer than others because I want the parents DNA checked to results I get from AKC

You can check with AKC see at what stage the paper work is.

Your breeder might not be giving you the run around...
In order to have a litter registered with AKC an import does have to be DNA'd through AKC-order a kit from them, swab the dog, return it to AKC. If the DNA is the only hold up perhaps your breeder is unaware AKC has changed rules & the DNA sample has to be received by AKC (not processed & back to the owner as it used to be) in order to register the litter.

BUT, they would also have to AKC register the import first. To do so you have to have a copy of the export pedigree, among other items to send to AKC in order for the male to receive AKC registration. It can take from 3 or 4 weeks to months to get the paperwork from whomever they bought the dog from in another country. And then more time for AKC to process.

In my experience with the SV, it has taken me over 6mo on several occasions for paper turn-around time. If the breeder you bought you pup from has a history of reputable dealings, I'd also say be patient. Things can move painfully slowly sometimes. If the breeder has a good track record, you probably have nothing to worry about.

With imports involved, only 3 months in, the breeder is likely telling the truth. Getting all the paperwork in order from Europe can take close to a year. Breathe.

Indeed. It takes a *minimum* of 3 months, in my experience. Six to twelve months are not unlikely (although at 12 months, someone is being a bit slack.)

I have been in your position and had the very same thoughts. But, I think all these folks are giving you good advice. My breeder says, "they'll come, they always come!" So, I think this is just how it works. It is understandably difficult to be patient (and start having awful revenge thoughts). Another lesson learned. Trust that the paperss will eventually come to you.
