Although I do not claim to be an expert in grading hips, I have studied the hip x-rays of my German Shepherds and others on the internet. I believe the overlap of hipbone (femur) and pelvis must be of exact shape and size. The femurs should be parallel with the pelvic bones. If you look to the left side of the x-ray the pelvic bones don't overlap with the left femur. Also, if you are sending the x-ray to OFA they want to see the knee-caps in the x-ray. In my opinion, the actual hips look good, but the pelvis is off which indicates poor positioning. Does anyone out there know how the OFA would most likely grade the hips in this x-ray?

I think good if the positioning was better. Plus, the body of the dog looks like it is leaning to the right.

Might ask for them to be redone.?? Not sure, hips themselves look good though. They might go with them also.?? Thing is you want the best score possible, I would probably re do these just to be sure of getting that "best grading" possible. Good luck Nan

The picture is cell phone pic. of xray so the angle is prob caused by me but the vet might not have a perfect angle also, OFA will have two poses to look at and the knee is in the orig. pic i have it zoomed in to better see ball and socket more clearly and thats were im looking for opinions

bad positioning, fair/good hips. some possible subluxation on right hip? post on this OFA hip and elbow results page for more opinions https://www.facebook.com/groups/507365132668343/

are these prelims or officials? one OFA vet grades prelims, three vets give individual grades on officials and then they use those three grades to estimate for the final score.
