Hello everyone,

To start off, I grew up with "American" German Shepherds that came from pounds and family members so I do know nothing about the different types of full breeds.

I just purchased a German Shepherd puppy from a breeder who is stating the dog is from a German blood line. The breeder provided us with a print out of what the bloodline is but the documents do not seem very official.

If I did indeed purchase a German blood line pup, what kind of documents should I receive from this purchase and should they have certified stamps etc.?

Thank you all for your time and thank you in advance for any information.

The pup can be all German Lines and born here in the US, and if he was then may have AKC papers or a litter registration form for AKC.  If the pup was imported then you will have  import papers that you will send to AKC.

Hello everyone,

Thank you for the replies and interest in the post. Since creating this post I have been in contact with the breeder and all was made very clear to me. This has been my first puppy in years so when I was receiving the information I was more overwhelmed than anything else.

Anyway, thank you.

Let me guess; you were supplied with photo copies of the parents' pink papers and/or scorebooks? That's not uncommon.

Hi Keith,

The transaction started off a little different base on my wife and my need for the breeder to hold the pup for a couple of weeks after the purchase. We were about to move and thought it to be too much for the dog to go through too many changes at once. We ended up picking up the pup one week after the purchase so it could get to know the family cat...

When I picked up the pup I received ACK papers to transfer ownership of the pup. I received a print out of the pedigree of the pup for 3 generations. And I did receive paperwork for the parents as well.

This has become a very busy time in my life so I have not spent the usual amount of time researching this investment. It has only been about 5 days and I love this pup. She will make a great addition to the family. She will be trained as needed but most of all she will be a great companion. She has a great temperament and is an intelligent being.

The more time I spend looking at her I notice the difference when I see American German Shepherds, not that there is anything wrong with them, but I am now able to tell the difference.

When ever I make a special purchase I do a lot of research on what ever it is. In this case, it was a spur of the moment purchase and I had not researched anything. So, when we made the purchase, I did not know what I should have received etc. I was a little concerned about the transaction because of my own worries.

When I first wrote this post, I was most concerned about the "Quality" of the dog purchased because of the lack of knowledge of the breed. After spending time with the pup and doing a little research, I am seeing that we purchased a quality dog from a good breeder.

Thank you all for your interest and replies. GSD ownership came sooner than expected but I am glad I am here.
