I am really frustrated in my search for a good breeder in the New England area. I am ready for a puppy now but will wait for the right puppy. I have been looking at websites for von hena C and would like some personal input on this kennel and any other leads to good breeders in New England. Thanks

Purpose of dog? Working, pet, show?

I want the dog as a "pet" as my constant companion however I want a dog that is correct and am willing to pay for a good quality. I have no interest in breeding. Specifically I am looking for an eight week old, male puppy with good bone and an intelligent eye. Color is not important.

Check Sherry Ralph of Von Rubin Kennels in NY or Jenny from Vom Kuda Haus. Both have good dogs. Jenny specializes in old style Czech working lines .

I really liked the 2 dogs I saw from von Rubin, however a drivey working line may not be the best companion. Unless of course you plan on doing some enrichment activities with him. Didn't see any health testing results anywhere for von Cuda Haus, so I'd check into that before considering them.

Good luck with you search!

I know a couple of von Hena C dogs. They are stable and live as companion dogs, without doing any sports.
A similar kennel is von Ryanhaus in MA. I met the breeder with her dogs and several of her buyers with their dogs at a herding instinct test and at a temperament test. The dogs I met were sound as companion dogs and are not doing any sports.
The dogs are active pets though with other activities, and are OB trained.
Both breed mostly from East German line dogs. There is sometimes more line breeding than I would want but it is difficult to find a breeder who avoids line breeding within the last 5 or 7 generations.
Both breeders breed sound dogs and would likely be a good match for what you describe.
Good luck in your search!

Timber Ridge Farm in Saco, ME breeds Czech and Czech/West German Working Line. The breeder is a first rate SchH trainer who knows her dogs well because she works them.
Friends of mine bought an all Czech line pup from her as a companion dog, doing just basic OB. To my surprise, it worked out well. Stable dog, and my friends set boundaries well. As an adolescent the pup pushed the envelope a bit more than a novice owner might want to handle.
I know the West German lines that she uses, have seen them in sports on and off the field. Very stable dogs but they have more ooomph than the East German line dogs that Ryanhaus and Hena-C use. I would tell the breeder what you are looking for in your dog, and see whether she has one that is a good match.
