Do you think it's necessary to breed survey and/or show rate your breeding stock?

My goal is to produce the most well rounded dogs I can. Great health, temperament, drives, and structure. I do place looks last, so for me I do not find show ratings important for my breeding program. Certainly not opposed to those who do. I do plan on it for two of my dogs however.  I don't find it necessary, but my goals of breeding working dogs may vary from others.

My best female is also IMO my ugliest Wink Smile

Even though I am not a breeder I feel that it is my responsibility to get my dog(s) KK. The people in the sport that i look up to, respect and have been mentors to me do this same practice regardless if they ever have plans to breed. The one thing i find odd, is that even though i have witnessed these individuals doing the work, earning titles and getting KK none of them breed for $$. Once a breeding has been decided on, the pups are 'spoken for' before the tie ever happens and the costs are ridiculously low.

Yes.  I have always required the breed survey for any dog I breed.  I do so because it requires discipline, time, and effort on my part.  I do so because it requires the dog to show its temperament at least five different times under different judges and conditions.  The more people that judge my dog in different settngs, the more objective is the overall evaluation of the whole dog.
