I am new to this site and this is my first post, so please don't beat me up to bad.

We have decided to buy another GSD.  We currently have a female that is one year old.  She is - so far a perfect dog.  She has great drive, plays hard and gets along with all of our other pets.

We are not sure af breeding her yet. But if we do, we would like to own the stud dog as well.

When I search her pedigree, I see all kinds of letters and numbers on the other dogs and would like to know what they mean.  Is there somewhere to get a list of the abbreviations and the meanings?  Also, would checking the same data base (in your opinion) for dogs with similar breeding be a good place to start looking?

I am in Sugar Land, Texas and would appreciate suggestions for a good kennel or breeder within driving distance (no more than 5 hours each way).  Below is what I found while searching at http://www.vonlotta.com/definitions.html

Thanks A lot.

HanK

Hank - no offence, but it sounds like you need to learn A LOT more about the breed before you even consider mating your female. If you post a link to your dog's ped then we could help you to understand what the titles of her relatives mean.

Hank, you should start to train your girl in a club. The German Shepherd dog is a working dog breed.

A lot of advantages while doing this -

You will meet a lot of people knowing a lot about German Shepherd dogs and their temperament, and
They will guide you what to do prior to breeding ( health tests, titles )
You will know about the advantages and disadvantages of your girl / there is no perfect dog
You will learn about available studs or pups

After a while you´ll know what you want and what you have to do.

Kind regards!
Susie

In case you don´t want to do this on the forum, please PM me.

Annie T Lokey Vom Country is my dog if you would like to search her pedigree on the database.  I tried to copy a link, but for some reason could not.  It will not allow me to copy and paste from the database page.

And as an FYI, I am not planning to breed my dog for at least 2 more years (if then).

Thanks
