I was wondering if his back looks weird Or is it were he is just a pup and still growing. He was re homed with me because one of my friends wanted to breed her intact male to one of his friends female well he got to pick what pup he wanted and realized he didn't have time for two dogs so I took him because I didn't want him going to a shelter. I only did this after lecturing both of the seriousness of not hobby breeding. I was planning on getting a new pup anyways so it not an inconvenience. Just worried if he is growing properly or if uneven growth spurts are normal. Love this little guy ad glad I have him

Looks like typical American BYB structure. If he's not having any problems other than "looking weird" I'd not worry too much about it for a while and see how he matures. HUGE DISCLAIMER- I AM LOOKING AT ONE POORLY EXPOSED, TINY PHOTO.

Thank you for your response and I understand that this is a site for dogs with pedigrees which I'm pretty sure he doesn't have one so sorry if I took time away from some one with a pedigreed dog just wanted to know if I should worry or am I being over worried

You didn't ask us to comment on whether you love him or not.  Wink Smile   You asked if his "back looked weird." For what he is, no, I think he looks typical. I don't see anything overly alarming.

vadersmomma, no need to apologize, no one was trying to make you feel badly--Jenni was just stating the basics, that we're working from very small pictures that aren't ideal for examining a dog, but your pup doesn't have any glaring or alarming defect that anyone can see from his pictures, and he just looks like a normal GSD puppy from American lines--which are built differently than German showlines, which are built differently than German 'working' or dog-sport lines--and 'backyard bred' in so far as it doesn't appear that the parents were mated with any specific purpose in mind other than making puppies. This doesn't make your pup any less deserving of being loved than any other dog--as you already told the owners of both parents, breeding isn't something that should be done on a whim, but since you recognize this, I don't think you have any illusions that you're going to run out and start your own German Shepherd breeding kennel now that you've got your first one, either.

As to whether or not he's got a pedigree, there's no reason to think that he doesn't--if both of his parents are registered with the same kennel club [in the US, it would be with the AKC, typically, and/or possibly with the UKC, too], and if the owners of the parents sent in for registration papers for the litter Vader's from, then he certainly could be a registered, pedigreed GSD. I have no question that he's a purebred GSD, registration papers or not. And dogs that aren't registered have pedigrees, too, if someone makes the effort to record the history of the matings behind each set of parents, and their parents, and so on and so on. Teeth Smile

And with that face, and those EARS! How could you not fall in love with him?  I'm glad he was lucky enough to land in the hands of someone who will care for him properly, and only hope that Vader's littermates were as fortunate...and that you got through the the both the owner of Vader's mom and of his dad that they really shouldn't do that again.

So, to sum up--you're more than welcome here, and you didn't waste anyone's time; Jenni was happy to try to allay your fears that Vader's back didn't look right, and we hope you feel free to ask any other questions you have; that's how everyone gets started, after all!  And finally, congratulations on your new four-legged family member, with whom you already are smitten beyond all reason!

Hexe is quite right. Had you just posted "Does his back look weird" I'd not have said anything about him being BYB.  But, you'd mentioned right up front that this guy was a bit of a victim of ignorance, so I was just speaking in blunt terms- he looks very typical for the kind of breeding likely behind him, meaning nothing WRONG with him. It was not meant as an insult, rather a reassurance that while he doesn't look like a showline or working line pup, he doesn't look "weird" or unhealthy.
