Kalibeck

by Kalibeck on 16 January 2015 - 03:01

This girl will be PTS if not rescued by a qualified rescue or trainer. She has shown aggression when being walked on a pole...the shelter is calling her a 'mix'. I'm posting this from FB because there are folks here who could adequately evaluate this girl, & would appreciate the fact that if they are calling her a 'mix' they probably don't have a good knowledge base on working line temperament. I couldn't live with myself if I didn't at least put a shout out on her behalf!

Thanks, jackie harris

I hope someone is able to rescue this girl and give her a second chance.

I hope the picture can be seen. She is a very nice DDR/Czech younger female. The shelter info is on the picture...

"AHSOKA" is her ID

Nash County Animal Control Shelter,

Nashville, NC

252-459-9855

AnimalShelter@NashCountyNC.gov

The shelter had picked today as her euth day, but the many phone calls & pleas had convinced them to extend her time to 1/21/15...then she went after a shelter worker who tried to touch her back without warning while she was on the pole. Now they are saying if the shelter fills up they will kill her. Another GSD group was trying to get a evaluation done, but couldn't get there quickly enough...one of the people who was 'evaluating' her said they had 'never seen a working line GSD that looked like that'....& she really looks like your gorgeous DDR/Czech, very dark pigment, racoon eyes....obviously tough enough to stand up for herself. I hope someone can help her. I had to try. If I had the money, I'd try to go get her.

Thanks, jackie harris

Good that others can see the pictures sorry that I can't.  Hope that you find help for her.  If you can take her and just need money perhaps others could help you with that.

Just incase I am not the only one who can't see her could you repost the pictures

Judging a dog's temperament when trussed up to a rabies pole may not be the best way to do it. I've seen some handlers pull that wire cable noose so tightly that the dog can't breathe. Sometimes dogs can't  be handled safely any other way. There's also a chance that this is not a dog that is going to be able to be placed with anyone other than a very experienced dog handler.

The broken brass snap that's still attached to her collar tells me that she'd been on a chain for a sufficient enough time to have worn the swivel out and make a break for it--and that no one at the shelter has the nerve to try and remove it. Given that we use the oppositional force of back-tying a dog as a tool to encourage young dogs in bitework, it's reasonable to consider that she might be low-threshhold reactive when placed in a situation where oppositional force exists.  In more competant hands that weren't afraid of being bitten, she may well be perfectly social with strangers.

She at least deserves to be given a more experienced evaluation, though I agree she would probably be best off in the hands of an experienced handler.
