So, about a week ago i got a female GSD, she was said to be 8 weeks old.... a girl I went to school with dogs had puppy....both parents are full GSD, not registered though.

Anyways, back to where i was... i got this puppy a week ago sunday.... she was supposedly born November 14th.... she is tiny... very very tiny. Im taking her to the vet in the morning... but i need some peace of mind now. I know that getting a puppy from a back yard breeder is wrong... but i couldnt stand the fate of these puppies so i took one. Im not even sure she weighs 6 pounds! She eats hard food okay... not perfect but she does good. She drinks good. Ive noticed she goes up to my 9 year old female boxer and tries to nurse from her..

As soon as i figure out how, i will attach some pics of her....

Can anyone tell me how old they think she is?!

Welcome to the PDB

I am happy to hear that you will be taking your pup to the Vet in the morning please don't change your mind about this it is very important.

Your pup sounds very young and very small for her age which should be 8 weeks before allowed to leave it's mother.

She may need a small bite size puppy food to eat and you may also add some warm water to soften the food making it easier for her to eat.

Pictures of her and her Mother and Father will help judge what her adult size will be.

Being bred by idiots, your pup was probably never properly dewormed. That will certainly hinder growth. Photos would sure help us guess her age. I would deworm her properly (3 day course of fenbendazole), get her on some probiotics after that, and make sure she's eating enough. It's possible they didn't feed her enough in addition to the very minimal nursing she was doing, if the "breeders" are that experienced. There are people out there who think pups nurse until they're ready to go home and they don't feed them enough. Worms, lack of food...there are many reasons and 8 week old could be small.

Puppies will try to nurse as long as they can get away with it. Her trying that on the Boxer doesn't mean she's younger than 8 weeks. I have a 4 month old who still tries that when she thinks it might work.

Please post pics and let us know what the vet says. I would NOT let them vaccinate her tomorrow, as she doesn't sound like she's any condition yet for puppy shots.
