Hello all! I am a proud German Shepherd owner of 5 years. I have a shepherd from a backyard breeder that turned out to be a great dog after thousands of dollars on training to fix his fear and fear aggression. Now it is maintainable but easily maintainable and limited to situations I can avoid.

i have followed this website and germanshepherds.com and educated myself on schutzhund, reputable breeding, training, etc for five years.

I had saved up 900$ for a shepherd I was hoping to get in the next two or three years to join  a local club and do trials with....

when out of NO WHERE my husband ( a police officer) decided to become the decoy for his department. It is an unpaid position with tons of extra hours after work or on days off. I guess I finally rubbed off on him!!

one of the current canine handlers stepped down from his position after one year due to having a newborn baby, becoming an FTO, and other reasons.

So guess what?! The department chose my husband to become the new canine handler for an amazing four year old german shepherd imported from the Netherlands. She is currently back at training at a facility in Louisiana but starting February 2, my husband is moving there to train with her 8-10 hours a day for five weeks.

She is coming home to live with us when the class is over....

i am the most ecstatic person alive right now. I feel like my dream is coming true. I don't get to work her but she will be at home with us. We got to keep her for one night before she went back to Louisiana and she is a dream. She "speaks" Dutch and responds to commands instantly.

It is crazy going from a low drive, backyard breeder shepherd (who I think is smarter than any dog I have met!) to a high drive, crazy intelligent shepherd.

i will share our stories more when we get her back!

Oh yes, we also have a rescue siamese mix that runs the house. I am thinking we are not going to introduce her to Fyba, our police canine, because Fyba seemed too interested in her even when Fyba was in her kennel (the cat couldn't care less.... She is the boss of our german shepherd we already have). Maybe someday  I will ask for advice on introducing them once They have been able to smell each other from different rooms for a month.
