Max my shepherd has been diagnosed as having a congenital defect of the spine he has no feeling in his tail and is now incontinent! he is 19 months old and doubt if I will have him at 2 years,
THESE ARE THE BREEDING PARENTS THAT CANNOT BE BOTHERED TO REPLY ABOUT THERE PUPS.....IN OTHER WORDS YOU BROUGHT PUP FROM US SO GET ON WITH IT...Jaz vom Rauchig Tal AND
Shadow Von Shwarzenegger
SHAME ON YOU BREEDERS...BUT NO WORRIES I WILL TAKE GOOD CARE OF HIM UNTIL HIS TIME IS UP..I THINK MORE ABOUT MY DOGS THEN JUST BREEDING THEM FOR MONEY....
i wrote this over year ago ....Max passed away this week due to his condition :( although he suffered from incontinence he led a happy life with me..i have lost a very loyal, loving and great companion...
R.I.P Max forever in my heart Xxxx

My heart is saddened for you...clearly, you and Max crossed each other's path for a reason, and he was blessed in having you to care for him and give him the very best life despite the limitations nature placed on him.
If the people who brought him into this world turned their backs on you and Max, they are cowards who have no business bringing any living being into this world. They will get what they've earned, eventually, you have to trust in that.
I'm so, so sorry. Run free and healthy now, Max, and play to your heart's content; you person will find you again when the time is right.

Sorry for your loss of your beloved friend. When they die young it is hard to swallow and I have unfortunately been to that rodeo. Be careful believing everything veterinarians tell you about genetic defects or blaming the breeder. Most veterinarians will gladly lump everything they can't explain otherwise into an inheritable genetic defect cateragory. Diseases such as lung and breast cancer teach us that a lot of genetic defects can also be environmental or spontaneous without a clear contribution from the parental genetics. Then there is the expression variable in which individuals with a genetic defect may not express or may express very late in life or only to a minimum effect. Women with the BRCA mutation may not have breast cancer or express it very late in life and many women with breast cancer may not be carriers of the BRAC mutation and just have a spontaneous mutation leading to cancer possibly due to environment or just bad luck. A lot of doctors and veterinarians do not have the training or experience to be giving a lot of detailed or up to date advice on genetic conditions in humans or dogs. Listen to what they say concerning congenital defects and diseases but verify that the science supports their statements which in many cases it does not.

bubba, it wasn't so much the congenital defect that was at issue--it certainly wasn't something Max's person was happy to learn, of course--it was the complete and total lack of any support, moral or otherwise, they got from the breeder. When contacted, the breeder apparently copied a 'canned' reply and sent it to the OP, and that was the end of it as far as they were concerned. See the original thread here. I doubt you would have gone incommunicado with a buyer of one of your pups if the situation had arisen...

I was only addressing the congenital aspect

Sorry to hear about your loss. He was lucky to have someone so caring in his life. We also just lost a relatively young dog (6 years) to to genetic health issues from a breeder who apparently couldn't care less about it. It makes me so angry that people can be so callous. Rest in peace, Max.
