Hi everyone - I'm new here and looking for some advice... This male GSD puppy was born June 28 2014. He is registered (AKC) as black.
I am wondering if he is really a black sable? Any helpful input is appreciated! Thank you in advance!

Black, to me, with something like silver or bleed through, or redish undercoat. You have images of parents?

yes sable, dark sable, some also call it black sable

I don't have one of his dad but he looked just like a normal solid black... is it appropriate/okay that he is registered as black, or should it really have been sable? In my mind when I think sable I think much lighter than this...
Here is his mom:
And here is an adult full sister to him:

GSD Lineage, 1st picture suggests he's solid black with bleed through or with some silver hairs. But if you look at 2nd picture, the blurry one color is clear sable, my opinion.
His mother looks a light sable to me with pattern, would be nice to see pup's pedigree to make sure.
OP
Sables come in various shades
dark
medium dark
& light

Pedigree doesn't really help, no info of ancestors colors in first few generations. Far ancestors are mostly show, bkack red color
