I have a female how is VERY HEAVY in whelp. She is due on Sep 12.
Yesterday she started limping on her hind leg. She has OFA good hips and has not sustained any injury that I know of.
Any ideas of what could be going on.
Yes, I called my vet.

Keeping figures crossed just a bruised paw.

she may have a sticker in her paw between pads..or stepped on a sharp rock
toenails ok?
take hand and work down from hips laying down on the side limping, and just play like her body is a lemon you need to squeeze juice out of...when she shows a sign you hit a sore spot you may find it...go back and forth front and back , in goin,..gently...watch her reaction...
she may have twisted her leg also..being heavy and off balance.
Good Luck

I know that in humans, being heavily pregnant can put pressure on the the nerves to the legs, causing very bad sciatica. If this is the case, she'll get relief once she whelps.

vet checked her and he said it was pressure on nerves, she's progressing nicely.

Wow, and here I thought that was a real longshot, as humans are bipedal, not four legged!
(I thought I'd probably get laughed at for even suggesting it!)

I immediately though sciatica, Sunsilver. ;)

She was checked for everything possible......back, hips, baggs and tits, knees, hocks, paws, toe nails, all were clear. Vet did it in a very calming way, almost like a massage and she seemed to relax and enjoy it. We carefully turned her belly up, and slid a foam wedge under he back and hips for a for a few minutes. vet said it would rearrainge the pups a bit and cold help...this evening she is limping less, .
gotta love older vets.....they've seen everything. LOL.

So what you're really saying, SitaMom, is that your girl just got plain ol' fed up with hauling that heavy load around for 60+ days and decided she deserved a spa day, and by god, she got one...full body massage with the full attention of you AND the vet. Clever girl.

Hexe, I'm going to laugh on that one for a long time.......could become a family joke........thanks for lightening it up around here.
