Uber Land

by Uber Land on 20 July 2009 - 00:07

I just wanted to post a few pics of some american line dogs I know of,  an feel they are good representatives of what american breeders have tried to produce.  majority of these dogs have the CHIC (all OFA cert) eye CERF, MRD1 clear and are OFA good or excellent.  they are active in herding, agility, obed. and therapy work. I don't think these lines get enough coverage on this board.  majority of the dogs pictured here are extreme, poor quality specimens.

you are not expected to reply to this thread and this s not to get a german vs. american line arguement going,  there's plenty of other threads for that.  I can tell you who the breeders are and the names of these dogs with their titles and health cert.
 first is a weblink: http://www.freewebs.com/samurispixelperfect

bitches: these girls are litter mates and also littermates to the last male in the bottom 3 pics,  all OFA, CHIC

males: bottom 4 males are from same kennel, sired by GV's and Sel champions out of strong mother lines

next 3 pics are same male

I will be posting more pics later, but this is what I want to see when I think of american showlines.

Uber, the first girl I like for the Am. S/L. Dark eye and very beautiful type. Typical AM shoulder (poor angulation, reach comes from loose ligaments), weak back and poor croup.

The first male in the small pic, very nice for an Am. S/L.

The second male. another weak back, very steep croup, nice long upper arm, very poorly placed. Again a shoulder angle of probably 120 degrees or so.

Third male, good masculinity, good type , long upper arm, o.k. angle on shoulder, very short and steep croup and again a less than stellar back.

Fourth male (with bandanna), YIKES, short, poorly placed upper arm, very poor layback of scapula, poor color, non existent croup, very poor tail set.

Fifth male no comment on standing pic. Absolutely nothing good to say.

Striding picture, dog exhibits good side gait, probably due more to joint "looseness" than good structure.

Head shot, if it's a bitch, I like it.

This is a dog that I consider near perfect anatomy wise.

sable male is a Asgard Big Ben grandson.

what makes you say some of these have weak backs?

Rik

by Rik on 20 July 2009 - 02:07

Well, basically because the back sags and is easy to spot from looking at them for 25 years.

What makes you say any of these have good anatomy as compared to the standard. I gave you my assessment of each. Now you tell me what you think of each one.

Are you able to recognize what an upper arm should look like and how it should lay. How about shoulder angle. Ideally, 95 degrees or so., but not many are this good. The shoulders you post are a minimum 120 or greater.

Obviously you have no idea what a croup is, or you would not have included dogs with a 2 inch croup. This is one of the most important parts and the attachment for rear muscling. Where can you attach more muscle, a 2 inch croup or an 8 inch croup.

So, honestly, compared to the dog I posted, how do your picks stack up anatomy wise.

What is that dog's name?  Really nice looking dog..............................

Rik, that dog does have nice anatomy, but he's so heavily built, I wonder if he'd be able to do a scaling wall, or jump a fence and bring down a criminal. Don't you think the agility suffers in some of these really large, heavy-boned showine males?

Also, a 2-inch croup is a physical impossibilty. That dog is not properly stacked, and his rear is turned away from the camera slightly,  making it look shorter than it is.

(Okay, you were probably exaggerating to make a point...)

Have to agree with Rik, the dog he posted is a super looking dog, near perfect. There is no comparison with the first lot of pictures, if you can't see that then there really is no help for you. Liz

The dog I posted is: www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/570652.html  I saw him at the NASS and he is as nice in person as the picture.
