Hello all, I have two dumb questions for you all!  First of all, in the IPO titling, for the A/B/C scoring, is it A-obedience, B-tracking, C-protection?  In that order? or what order? And the second is I saw a title on a dog in the Netherlands that I never saw before, it was on his scorebook after his VZH and before his IPO, it is a "UV" ?   What exactly is a UV??  it was on an FCI scorebook.   Thanks in advance!

UV (= AD) is not an uncommon title in Holland.   According to one of the dutch websites.

Thanks for the answers. @ beetree- Ive been to Sch trials and watched them and it seems they always did th Ob part first, protection second and trackibg last so seems to me they would be scored in that order?

Here is how it was done at the WUSV 2013, from my program.

Carol at least here in No CA it would be a bit unusual to have tracking last. The only time I think I remember that the judge had a limited time schedule so obed and protection were done on friday night and tracking Sat am but that was a very small trial. In fairness to the dogs obed is almost always done b4 protection otherwise when they came onto the field the 2nd time they would pump up and go back to protection mode thinking they were going to do it again ( you see this occasionally even doing the obed first, in the dogs mind he thinks he's there for protection so always warm your dog up w/ a bit of obed before your turn. Good idea on the tracking too - take 1 article do a 5-10 ft track at some point before your turn.  Its just fair to be clear with the dog)

At larger trials, regionals, nationals, the worlds the competitors draw for a "flight". Thus on Sat flight one may be on the tracking field while flight two is in the stadium in the am first doing part b then part c and flight 3 will have the stadium in the afternoon while flight 2 tracks. Then flight 3 tracks Sunday am and flight one has the stadium.

Most trials I've gone to try to schedule tracking as early in the day as they can for the benefit of the dogs- avoid the heat, more moisture in the air and on the track etc. Not unusual see tracking start at 5 or 6 am (groan I am NOT a morning person in fact our practice tracks were often in the evening). But I live in a very arid hot part of the country so the picture may be different in other regions. Another advantage to the early start is freq the stadium work does not start til 9 or ten so it would be possible to track two flight earl in the day and still have one of those flights available to do B & C later in the day.

A great way to learn any new venue or sport - schutzhud, herding, akc obedience is to volunteer at the trial and once your feet are wet offer to be a tracklaye or a secretary. In herding an excellent way to learn is to scribe for a judge.

So let us know who you are going to be working and where. Keep us posted. Good luck.

Cmills,

I don't think it's written anywhere (could be but I've not seen it) that specifies the order in which the three phases of IPO (A=Tracking, B=OB and C=Protection) must be completed.

However, for scoring purposes Tracking is always scored as Phase A, Obedience is scored as Phase B and Protection is scored as Phase C.

Also, most of the time the tracking phase of a trial is performed at a different location other than the field where B and C phases are performed, so you wouldn't necessarily see the tracking phase performed.
