I have an 8 1/2 month old puppy. Her mom was showline blk/red "traditional saddle" and dad was blk sable.
She is blk & tan, not a sable. Will she have a traditional "saddle" like her mother or because her dad was sable will she
"hold on" to a lot more blk? I know they can change color for up to 3 years, sometimes for life, but at what age will I know if she'll have that saddleback look?

She will have a traditional saddle but the black may be more intense than average. She cannot have sable offspring unless she is bred with a sable male.

She has started to get tan going up her legs, but her brothers & sisters have not at what age will you know if they'll have a saddle.
oso what do you mean by the black may be more intense than average? Do you mean a larger saddle like a blanket back or a darker in color saddle?

It is entirely possible she will retain a LOT of black. Does the sable sire have bi-colors in his lines? I know of several dogs with blk/red show parent and a sable working parent, the litters were comprised of melanistic, almost bi-color black and reds, and sables with rich red undercoats. Post a pic, I'd love to see!

oops! That's a big picture, guess I should have made it smaller! This is not the best picture it is a little blurry, but it was taken a couple of days ago.

She looks like a typical black & tan. I expect her to get a little lighter still as she matures. Sable is a dominant gene in GSD's so she did NOT inherit that color gene from her sire. Depending on the recessive genes of her parents, she could be homozygous B&T, or carrying bi-color or black recessive genes, neither of which would make her a "blacker" black & tan.

I bred my black & red girl to a sable and I got 1 solid black and the rest black & reds!
