I served a Whole Foods pre-cooked smoked turkey for Christmas dinner and have a good amount left over. Is it safe to feed to my dogs as treats? I'm a little paranoid about what I feed my dogs anymore because my last GSD had 5 Gran mal seizures in one day from hot dog treats. The two Shepherds I have now have never shown any sensitivity to anything, but I still wanted to get some feedback/opinions here before giving them any of this smoked turkey.

I don't see why not. Not the bones of course, but the meat should be fine.

Starcharr: are you talking like for training treats or to add in their food? I would not add to their food due to the amount of sodium in any processed products; salami/hotdogs/packaged anything. Not good for dogs. Of course never cooked bones... Training treats might be OK; small amounts OK. Good luck Nan

Thank you Nan and Cmills. I was going to cut up the meat, bag it and freeze it for future treats.

starcharrchar, you should have invited me, then nothing would have been left over to worry about

cooked meats that dogs aren't accustomed to frequently cause gas & diarrhea.

I was going to say the same thing as above. I have a dog with a very sensitive digestive system and I always say..... if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Thank you Eldee and ziegenfarm. I already give them diced cooked turkey, beef and chicken for treats on a regular basis, but have never given them any meat that was smoked.
