I read a couple of other threads about split heats but not sure if this qualifies as one or not.  My girl came in for the first time 2 months ago.  She came in again just 3 weeks ago.  Her last heat lasted about 3.5 weeks as a novice I may have missed the first few days.  I had just purchased the dog a few months before.  She is just now a year old.  Is this a possible split heat and is it normal for her to be bleeding for 3 weeks now?  I am not breeding her either so that is not a factor in my questioning just concerned.

So out of 40 views no one has experienced this or has any ideas?

I have never experienced nor heard of this.  I would consult a Veterinarian or two about this, Maybe run simple tests on he hormone levels..

I seem to be having the same symptoms with my bitch right now.

She went into heat 2 months ago for about 3 weeks and 3 days ago, the dogs in club have been acting like she is in heet again. During parctice she's distracted by the other dogs and is becoming "bitchy" when other male dogs come close by. She is digging in her crate and she wants to stay in it even when the door is open.

One of our club's members said her dog also did this, she took it to the vet and it has a uterine intection. I haven't taken my to the vet yet, but if she continues for another few days I'll be making an appointment.

Hi Salina, I would take your female to a vet to see what is going on. For a normal heat about 21 days maybe longer. After about 60 days some females this year have been going into a false pregnancy (showing breast development with milk, nesting). There has been only a few split heats but I would still have her checked out, you never know what is going on. I would be more worried about an infection going on. I hope this helps.
Always,
Cee

Salina,

My bitch began her first heat on May 28th and all seemed normal and about the time I thought she was going out of heat she started bleeding again heavier than at first and her vulva got even more swollen.  We noticed she had excessive urination about 3 weeks ago and took her to the vet.  She had developed a UTI, probably from cleaning herself.  I don't know if this is why her heat went on for so long or not.  Someone said she had had a split heat but I don't think she ever went out of heat.  The swelling just started going down last week so it looks like she has finally come to an end. That's almost a 2 month heat.  I'm still being careful with her around other dogs...it will be interesting this Wednesday when we are in agility class to see how the males react to her.  I have my fingers crossed that we don't have to go thru such a long drawn out heat again.  Two months every 6 months, jeepers!  My vet seemed stunned but said we would just have to weather the storm but to watch for a discharge of pus which would indicate pyometra.  You may want to monitor her temperature to make sure she doesn't have a fever.  Sounds like you may just need to weather your storm like we have.  Good luck and keep us posted on how it goes.

Ok to the vet we will go!  Thanks for your replies people an infection did not cross my mind because she was just recently on anti-biotics for an infection.   She was on the anti-biotics right when her heat started this however was due to injury.  Strange...

Sita is in false pregnancy right now. She is nesting, has breast developement and and is VERY bitchy.

She has started walking while urinating, so she will be going to the vet for a check-up.
