not trying to be a real smartass, just a little .why do you have a litter if you cant house break a pup?
i really am just finding this out as my last dog rarely came in.what are you instilling in these pups if something this simple has you stifled?

Do you go outside with him, to make sure he does his business and offer praise or a reward before you bring him back in?   How long do you leave him out?  Maybe he is in too much of a rush to get back to you and forgets about answering the call of nature.

How did you house train the first one?  If you already have one - surely you figured it out on the that one...but I will bite - Keep puppy crated - take out side regularly - when you take him out - bring him in for a while - dont leave unattended at any time in your house - when you finish playing - take back outside - see if he has to go  and put him back in the crate... repeat 100 times.....

He may have the good olde" submissive urination problem, each time he comes in from outside..
you the human pats the top of his head & he pees, I had a female that did that.....soooooooo when pup comes in, nobody so much as makes eye contact, then after about 15 minutes or so, give a quick pat on the side or under belly of your pup, make no big deal about it, don't even look at pup, it should come to a halt sooner or later

I tend to lean to the first two replies on this subject. However, some pups are harder to train than others so I will give my twopence worth.
Try newspaper! at the back door and everytime he looks like he is going to piddle, put him on it. then reduce the newspaper gradually. Eventually, he will start going to the back door (where the paper was) you will see and then you can let him out!
Works for me with some of them, but I find the older ones teach the young ones normally.
Good luck with all your endeavours.

Mick,

Try to teach him to bark on command for a treat.  Once you master that, get him to bark then take him outside immediately.  Don't bring him back in until he does his business.  As soon as he does, run for the house, make it a game & give him a treat when he comes in.  He will learn that if he needs to go out, he needs to bark.  If you don't play with him after he does his business but instead give him a treat when back in the house he will figure out that he needs to go outside to do his business.  Play with him until he gets the urge.  While he is doing his business outside praise him, give him a command like "let's go potty" or "get busy" etc.  He will figure it out and pretty soon will do it on command.  If he waits until he comes in to piddle, pick him up with a low growl, tell him "outside" and place him back outside.  It may take a while but he'll catch on.
Good luck and enjoy him.

Deb
