I have a 13 month old female that just weighed in at 74.5 pounds. I'm have not measured her height yet. She sleeps in a large crate at night. To me she doesn't look confortable. What determines the right crate size for a dog.

If she uses the crate only to sleep in I would think Bigger the better.  COMFORT. She's still growing and it would stink to be cramped up all night long while she's trying to sleep. She has to have her legs all up in the air, half her body on the ground half up the side of the crate.

I'm amazed nobody else has answered. A high % of these dogs are crated. you read about it all the time on these threads.

That's exactly what she does when she sleeps..........I  will get her a bigger one this weekend.

My dogs look fairly comfortable sleeping in a 42" crate.  Even my large male.  But they do not generally spend a lot of time crated.

Some dogs like to sleep all goofy laying on their back with their legs sprawled up in the air.  I've seen them do that in the middle of the living room floor, or lying up against the couch.

I use a size 500 crate for vehicle and size 700 for home.

If she can lay down on her side, with her legs stretched out, without touching the sides, she's good.  FYI for flying the dog has to be in a crate large enough that their head does not touch the top when standing. 74 lbs. 13 months old can be a problem for the skeletal system.

Her weight was a concern of mine. She eats Taste of The Wild Bison and gets plenty ox exercise. The vet said that she  is in great shape, and doesn't look as heavy as she is, and that she has great muscle tone. I don't want her to be too heavy, but I can't control it.  Any suggestions??

Get us a picture of her standing from the side.  I like to keep my guys thin.  Definite tuck from the rib cage to the waist.

Speaking for me; I crate my pup in the house at night. All dogs are crated while in the truck.
