Just wanted to share a great success with everyone and see if anyone else has had a similar experience. In one of my recent litters, the mother accidentally pulled too hard on the umbilical chord, tearing open the puppy's tummy and allowing some of his intestines to come out. I immediately thought the worst. It was 2am and our emergency hospital is just over an hour away, so I knew there was no way this little guy would make it that far with his intestines exposed. I put on clean gloves, poured some sterile saline over the area, pushed his intestines back in, and stitched him up. I was still skeptical that he would make it, but I have him antibiotics daily and kept praying he would be ok. I removed his stitches when he was 10 days old. He is now 4.5 weeks old and still doing great. He's the runt of the litter, and already spoiled rotten from all of the extra attention, but he's happy and healthy.
Just curious if anyone else has had success with this situation. I have spoken with a few other breeders that lost puppies to this even when taken to a vet to be stitched up. Hope there are some other success stories out there!!

Aw, this is a great story. More pictures! He's a cutie.
I only have a success story of a dwarf hamster, not of dogs. Not sure if anyone is interested, so won't post.
Good luck with your pup. he sounds very special.

Yes, that happened to me when I attempted to pull the pup out of the mom and I did not curve his butt inward,
and when I had him out I noticed his intestines started to unravel, I put my thumb on the opening right away,
brought him straight to the vet and she put a few stitches in and he was fine.
Since then I have learned to be a whole lot more patient and I didn't need to do what I did, but I
thought I was helping...
The pup is 4 years old now and in excellent health!
