Hi everyone.  I haven't been around in awhile but I came across something recently that I thought I would ask about.  Any of our Canadian, specifically BC members heard of these guys?  Black Lion Kennels and Evans Dog Training Center.  Located in Williams Lake BC. This is just out of curiosity more than anything.  I encountered someone last week who i think may have bought a dog from them.  They couldn't remember where the dog came from, but based on the description this is what I came up with.  Anyway, just wondering what the general thoughts were if anyone has hear of them or knows of them.  Not looking for a dog from them, more an opinion on ethics and quality etc...

Pirate's Lair....perhaps you have encountered these guys?  I am trying to think of who else around here may have crossed paths with them.  I know you will have an honest opinion of them if you know of them.  LOL.

Thanks in advance everyone

I am in the area, ironically I have not seen a GSD of Evans breeding.  I do know that at one time Virks were going to bring in a dog from Wendelin farms.  Have no idea if they did or didnt. There are other GSD breeders in Williams Lake so if you know the bloodline of the dog, I might be able to point you in the right direction.  Felloffher has some nice pedigrees and is in this area as well. The dog may have been one of his?

Brynjulf.  Do not know the bloodline of the dog.  It was a strange encounter to say the least.  BYB brings me these orphaned puppies.  Starts telling me about the parents.  Mom died because of owner stupidity.  She was saying SHE imported the male direct from Czech......then as the story goes on they bought from a place in williams lake.  The guy there imports from czech and trains dogs and breeds for RCMP.  Sells trained dogs as well.  This dog was imported to be a police dog but wasn't nervy enough, was scared of everything and submissive.  I know part of her story doesn't add up because RCMP have an internal breeding program and do not buy trained dogs from other breeders.  Either the lady was mistaken or was fed a line.  Also said that the dog is almost 2 years old and the guy in williams lake hasn't given them papers yet, not sure how long they have had the dog though I do know that this male and the dead mother have another litter that is 6 months old (Yup that's right, mother wasn't 2 yet either...2 litters back to back before 2 years old).  This all came up because we were discussing compensation for raising orphan puppies, her offer was stud service (no good since male isn't vetted, ofa and they don't have czech papers let alone CKC papers for him)....plus if he was supposedly released from whatever training program he was supposed to be in because he was for the reasons stated above, that is the last dog I want to use as a stud.  Next offer was a puppy.  Again, no can do as an unregistered puppy is useless to me.  In the end they took the orphans back so they could hand raise them themselves, plus their neighbour farmer has a pig that is having piglets any day so they plan to put the puppies with the sow (yes I know what you're thinking, but whatever, not my dogs).  They didn't like any of my offers so the dogs had to go home.

Anyway, back to the adult male.  Her story just piqued my curiosity.  I am guessing that based on the lady's description of where they got the dog, that the Evans training/Black Lion is where the dog came from.  Was also curious about her claim (hers or the breeder) that they train for RCMP....perhaps she meant city police, but do they even buy from outside breeders?

Just trying to build my knowledge base that is all.  Thanks for your info too!!

Nope does'nt sound like it came from them.  The dog would have papers.  They definitely do not train with or for the RCMP.  They are breeding dogs for PPD.  Hmmm very interesting story that's for sure.

hmmmm.  Interesting.  She said they were well known......but at the same time she couldn't name them.  I suspect that she may have been misinformed by the people she got the dog from.  Sad which would explain why she does not yet have papers.

Thanks for sharing what you know.

Aceofspades,

Where is the owner of the dog from? I've only sold one male locally that would be around 2 years old.

PG BC.  Fellofher are you Black Lion Kennels?  Or are you another breeder in WL?

No, I'm not Black Lion. I have bred two litters in the past 4 years, but I don't import dogs. The women I sold the dog to was a little odd, that's why I asked. She wasn't from PG.

Ahhh, gotcha.  I am still puzzled by the encounter, and quite curious to try to figure out where the dog came from...at this point not for any real reason other than just because LOL.  Yeah, the male she has is a direct import by the breeder that was sold to them and I am certain that they are long term residents of PG.
