Kim,
Thanks for the nice words and the laugh.

Brittany,
I am not going to offer any insight other than do a lot of research, you claim to good at using the "search function" and google.  Workingdogz gave you some very good advice, it would pay to read his post several times and digest it completely.

Well put Keith, I agree.

There are some excellent Czech dogs out there and I have owned some excellent WG WL dogs.  I couldn't be happier with the dog that I have that is about 75% czech and 25% old WG WL's.  You can't beat his czech pedigree and I hope,  actually I plan to get another one just like him.  There is nothing wrong with Czech dogs, you just have to be very very careful who you use to find one, just like a German dog.  There are several good working line breeders in the US, that title, breed, compete at the Nationals and OFA their dogs.  They keep dogs back and compete, title and train with dogs from their own  breeding.  Eichenluft is one example, but you can find others as well.

Well put slam. There are good Czech dogs out there you just gotta be careful with who you get one from, same with the wg, in fact same with any type of gsd. The "Czech Temperment" may be better for certain people, just not for me. And it really doesn't fit with what Brittany says she wants in a dog. JMO, goodluck Brittany.

Brittney

May I suggest you get a hamster, if the yard boy leaves the gate open you do not want someone to get attacked.

I vote a WL or anything in that area is the LAST thing you need. I also vote if you really are worried about the GSD being on the BSL list, then you get out and work your butt off trying to make sure that doesn't happen. Educate people, educate kids, as I mentioned before. There are so manythings you could be doing rather than sitting on here worrying about things that are none of your biz...................Hey might be good for you and your dog.

Does having 2 rescued Guinea pigs count or do I need to get an actual hamster as you suggested? I think my 2 Guinea pigs are pretty good guard pigs. If they don't like you they chatter their teeth... if they want you dead they'll hump you to death.

LOOK...A Good Dog is a Good Dog it doesn't matter what the bloodlines...It's just that certain bloodlines were developed for certain things...Times change and therefore the need for certain type traits change...
Within any litter you have Good...Better...and BEST puppies...So within any bloodline/breeding you have to still choose the best puppy/dog for what you want...Otherwise it'd be simple to pick one out...Find a breeding you like and just order a puppy/dog...Period...

I love the DDR/Czech bloodlines...but they're not the best for what I like and/or want...or need...I think if you're wanting a Sport Dog then it takes a very special person to choose a true DDR/Czech with a defensive type attitude to work and train them...One of the MY BEST Dogs EVER was a DDR Dog from East Germany (before the wall came down)...but I think you need to choose wisely and know what you really need and want...

It's also very important to know what you can honestly handle...If you get something special then have someone that can help you work and train them...

Too little of a dog and you won't stay interested...Too much of a dog and you will be overwhelmed...So do your homework and choose wisely...When buying a puppy...you're buying bloodlines and their parents...When buying a young adult or adult you see more of what you're getting and/or what they will turn out to be...
