hello,
i love in Germany and will be coming home this summer i have a 2 yr old shepherd we bought over here and i need to find the appropriate kennel for her flight. she is about 70-75 pounds and a sweet heart! i know they say xl is a good size for shepherds but then i read that a giant would be better because of her needing 2 inches above her ears? im confused i thought as long as she had enough room to stand turn and lay down that was okay? any thoughts would be appreciated

She might fit in a 400 size but it's best if u can actually measure her cause the weight
doesn't tell us how tall she is.

CMora,

GK will not steer you wrong as Sitasmom suggests.

When you travel from Germany, your "fate" will be in the hands of some bureaucratic interpretation ESPECIALLY out of Frankfurt.

I travelled twice through Germany with a 600 crate (extra tall).  On the third return, a "good Samaritan" clerk who obviously loves dogs more than me enticed my dog into a full alert, full height sit whereby his ears touched the top of his crate.  "No gut," she said in mixed German/English.

One phone call, 15 minutes, and 900 euros later came two 700 sized crates whereby I paid shipping for 4 crates and two dogs.  One heckuva racket.

My 6'5" frame settled into coach and died on the way home whilst my dogs sprawled in full length luxury.

Very, very happy that day.

I feel a bit guilty but Kevin's post made me laugh out loud. Teeth Smile

We recently relocated from Hawaii and had to put the GSD in the giant size crate for the exact reason mentioned (clearance for the ears).  She really would have been fine in the XL (I have one of those for my other dog), as she doesn't tend to sit up in the crate the whole time.  She's only 60 lbs, so weight wasn't an issue and she really had *way more* than enough room in the giant crate.  When checking the dogs in, the clerk mentioned that they had another customer who wasn't able to put their dog on the flight because the crate was too small.  I hear it's hit or miss and really depends on the personnel working at the time.

I really felt she would have been perfectly comfortable in the XL, but didn't want to chance being turned down or having to try and find a giant size (not easy to come by, in my experience) at the last minute.  Good luck.

Sure wish there was a rental service for crates. I'd so prefer to rent a crate for half price and not have them taking up space in my garage.
