I was wondering if anyone could help me out here. What are the going price of a quality working dog today? What are the fair prices for puppies from titled parents? Both Imports and domestic (USA)? Also how much would an already titled workingline dog cost (Both domestic and Import)? I know it depends on the pedigree, but give me an estimate.

Brittany,

1000-2000 for a pup (USD).

Prices for titled dogs are quite variable. Age, gender, future working/competing ability, pedigree all factor in.

Maybe 3,000-10,000 for most. Considerably higher for some of the TOP dogs.

Brittany, it all depends....

pedigrees are great but people overlook some really nice lines because they dont recognize the most used dogs from the past. A friend of mine just purchased a female and he almost did not go trough with it because he did not know the names. I saw the female and told him to go for it. She had a nice pedigree but not as heavily pushed in the US, that dog was superb! Nice female, nice, NICE female! He purchased her took her to the trainig right from the airport and called me telling me that he could not believe females like that exist! This was 10-11 months old female... he paid 4000 USD (shipping included) for her! What a steal!

There are females, males I would not touch with a 10 foot pole costing much more than that.

You have to decide what is a fair price for what! A titled female, male has an extra $1500 cost average.
What do you want the dog for, you want to go to trianing here and tere and have fun, maybe have three four litters and have a nice female you can do tons of fun things with? Or are you all excited about competing! If you are looking to compete, titled dogs are very expensive. 2 year old males with IPO1 that have the heart and soul to be on a world's team are 10K that is the price!

So unless you know what your limits and expectations are... the prices vary from a rescue to a 70K dog if you willing to pay.

Good luck, and happy serearch try not to get too overwhelmed.

People don't understand how expensive it is to Import a dog...Mainly with the SHIPPING...SHIPPING is very expensive and then U.S. Customs Clearance...

There are a lot of good dogs here in the U.S. and there are many good litters now-a-days...

Dog as anything else  is worth what ever is anybody willing to pay for it. There is no too high or too low price. That is esoteric issue. Some people like to pay a lot so that they can have a bragging rights or because they believe that they will get better dog if they pay much more. Other people do not want to part with their money and will look for bargain and usually getting OK dog but with higher probability of inheriting some problem.

But I know what you mean.It is all about probabilities.  As a rule of thumb  in present  in USA AVERAGE  price for a quality working line GSD pup   is around $1800-$2200+S&H.
Around that price  you have good probability to  get  quality pup from well matched parents with good backing of warranty. Anything much above you are probably ( but not necessary) paying more then you need to and anything much below you are probably not getting what you would like to get ( but not necessarily) . What is more important is to deal with breeder with long history so that you can do your research  on quality of  their dogs and of their service.

I was looking for a dog and had considered importing, but was looking in the US, too.

I found untitled adults in the US for anywhere from $1,500 to $7,500. I am amazed if anybody ever spends $7,500 on an untitled dog, but I guess people do it. For titled adults, prices were about $3,500 for older males up to $10,000 + for younger males.

Overseas, a girl I know just imported an untitled male for $4,000 in including shipping. So, she basically paid $2,800. I saw some other males, already titled, in the $4,000-5,500 ballpark.

However, I just purchased a new male and he was here in the US (although he was imported). I am paying $3,800 for him and he is not titled, but he appears to be a very top male. In the end, I thought it was a good deal for me since he had everything I wanted, minus the title, and without the stress of importing. He's already been AKC registered, too (another stressful event taken off my shoulders).

I could have opted for a cheaper male, but I had a very specifics type of dog I wanted and was unable to find one meeting all of the criteria for less.
