Question to all.  Wouldn't it be best for the pup to gain the weight back slowly, rather than quickly?

by joanro on 27 February 2013 - 14:02

Is "mud butt" loose stools? Or cow plops? What does "stuffing him", mean? You cannot overfeeding a dog to force them to gain weight. All they do is crap it out the other end. Buy a big beef rib roast and give it to him raw. Get some beef liver and feed it raw, it'll help build his strength. Cut back on the kibble when you give him the raw beef. Put him out side by himself and let him go at it.

Soft stool 4 cups kibble 4 cups rice....... Is yogurt good for giving them good bacteria

by joanro on 27 February 2013 - 15:02

Why are you giving all that rice? Get him some real food, raw red meat.
BTW, would you buy a bag of dog food that the FIRST ingredient is rice? (the first ingredient means the most ). Too much rice. Sounds like a good diet for chickens, not a dog.

Yes, rice turns to sugar in a dogs system only meant to be a very short term temporary fix to settle gut then move on to meat.  I would add ground beef, slightly cooked to kibble that should help his stool and have you tried pumpkin;  give a couple tablespoons maybe 3to 4 times per day or add to food also.  Should firm up stools and lots of good nutrients in pumpkin.  But do drop the rice.

I agree , Also supa, if it was a bad case of coccidia he had, there was signifigant harm done to his intestines, they will heal, but it takes awhile-thus mud plops .
I don't like rice either as a main ingredient as far as body building either, (how many heavy chinese do you see)(sorry, probably not a good comparison).
Pumpkin is good, and I agree more meat .

ok first thanks for the help.................i am on a military post in germany. my dog has to pass a physical, to go home with me in 2 weeks, i am very interested in the raw, but not til i get home, as a 12 hrs plane ride, and move to a new house is going to be stressful, here i didnt really have the means for raw, thats y i didnt concider it,,no freezer space, and not a very big variety to begin wit, i dont read german, so the german store though they prob have great things is out of the question......pumpkin may be as well, ill have to check, for now i need very simple common possible remidies. i put them on wildernes because i know i can find it, and feed it to tem as they settle in to the new country, home..................with that being said i read somewhere yogurt can help by replentishing health bacteria,, y rice, i was always told rice and noodles firm up dog poo, aparently not cause though his geting bigger, he still has runs, so today i gave him his last wormer shots, i just need to get his lil booty togetheron normal stuff for 2 weeks, then keep him ok for a month, then ill be able to experiment with raw. he already underweight so i dont want to learn about raw @ his expence right now if i change 10 things @ once i will never narrow down the isue
