Iowa Supreme Court: It's Legal To Fire Employee for Being Irresistibly Sexy

Women in Iowa beware: If your boss thinks you’re really really ridiculously good looking, he can fire you. And it’s perfectly legal. The all-male Iowa Supreme Court refused to reinstate a lawsuit Friday, noting that a dentist didn’t break the law when he fired an employee who had worked for him for 10 years because he and his wife saw her as a threat to their marriage, reports the Associated Press. Melissa Nelson, the 32-year-old dental assistant was by all accounts a stellar employee. But her boss, James Knight, complained of her tight clothing, “once telling her that if his pants were bulging that was a sign her clothes were too revealing.”

In a unanimous ruling, the justices ruled that having an “irresistible attraction” is enough of a justification enough to fire someone. It doesn’t matter if the person has not engaged in any kind of inappropriate or even flirtatious behavior and wouldn’t consider touching her employer with a 10-foot pole. Sure, that may not be exactly fair, conceded the justices, but it doesn’t constitute unlawful discrimination. Knight insisted Nelson wasn’t fired for her gender. It’s just that her employment threatened his marriage. And that conduct isn’t illegal because “it was based on specific emotions tied to a specific relationship and not based solely on a person’s gender,” notes the Des Moines Register.

That is just too bizrarre.
One job I had (and I'm sure it happens to many girls) my boss would make leud comments to me all the time.  His wife was cold to me and I didn't blame her really, her husband was an ass.  I found him as attractive as a fresh dog crap.  Anyway, I quit as the job was not worth the hassle.
Actually, that has happened with 3 jobs I've had.  All have been married and all jobs I quit.
Men.

It goes on all the time RS. I've seen things from guys drilling holes through rest room walls to watch the women in the stalls to unabashed sexual remarks and actions. In most cases the women get transferred to another dept or fired for some made up reason. Why would a woman want a husband like this guy anyway?

Exactly.  Pickings are slim, I'll admit, but I'd rather be single than stuck with a guy like that.

The other side of the coin.

My last job in corporate America I was a manager, all my reporting people were female. I purposely took a shift that started at 1PM and finished at 9 PM. About 400 people worked in this building, after 5 PM our group was the only unit in the building. I had a huge cube that I worked in with a clerk about 15' away. She was beautiful could have been a playboy centerfold. Here name was Cindy.

I was out checking on some of my other reporting people, when I came back I could see Cindy looking over at my desk with a strange look on her face.

When I got fully in the cube I spotted one of my other reporting people (Dotty) down on all fours under my desk. Cindy's eyes were popping out looking over at Dotty. So I simply said, Hi Dotty what are you doing under my desk. She says. "I need next Tuesday off and I'm prepared to do whatever it takes to get it off." I said what did you do about four weeks ago when you needed a day off? She said I filled out a vacation day request form. I said, well why don't you come out and fill out another request form, since no one else has Tue off it shouldn't be a problem. Which she did. Fifteen minutes later Cindy was still shaking her head in total disbelieve of what had just happened.

Was Dotty married?  And, just curious as to why you mentioned out hot Cindy was,,,,, if it had been her under the desk, would it have been a different scenario?Wink Smile

I call BS on the whole story. Just more of the same non-sense. So, are we to believe your clerk being 15' away and Dotty had no problems with the clerk witnessing this, lmao, okay.

I have one point to make-what happens when the Dr gets a super hot patient, does he let her go because he can't control himself? Sounds like a little self control might be better than firing someone because you can't control yourself. Oh ya then we have the other side of the coin, lmao.

RS, Dotty was single, Cindy was married. At the time I was engaged.

Dotties was very attractive.

GSD Admin, I have no idea what the hell you are talking about.

As far as Dottie and other people around, Cindy told me that at union meetings Dottie would get drunk and moon everyone from on top of the bar. I wouldn't put anything past her.

ROFLMAO, RS - under the desk! Saltpeter for all!!!  Bottoms up - literally.

This is turning into one of those You Tubes where a talking head warns women to not dress too provactively if they don't want to get themselves raped.

Ban tanktops, wear berkas......stay safe, my friends.
