I'm tryinng to come up with a design for affordable portable blinds, and have come up with this. Will try building one this weekend to see how it works out.

Cost:
$16 ~ 4 - 10' electrical conduit
$16 ~ 8 - corner connectors
$20 ~ 2 - 8 x 6 tarps, and misc stuff
$52 ~ total cost per blind........

Not personally, but have used them that were made similiar to your normal triangle shaped portables.  Same materials, different shape.  Worked fine.

Yes, I have made them that way and used them.  They are ok, but not nearly as nice as the ones from Hallmark which we now use. I built them more like a Teepee (sp) and flattened the tops of the galvanized pipe, drilled a hole and put a bolt through them.

There is one on E BAY selling for $ 30.00  last time checked

Nice, let us know how it works.

I've used a refridgerator box!

Our club is just starting out and we need to create equipment quickly without spending money we don't have. Eventually we'll upgrade to a nice set, but for now we're looking for used equipment or ways to build it affordably.

Slamdunk, I like you're idea of flattening the ends, bending, drilling and putting a bolt threw.......less material, less connectors and more like what the dogs will see at trials.

I used spray adhesive on the tarps, but that could have been done better.  I am not into origamy or folding laundry, so mine was a bit wrinkled but surely held together.  I did cut the tarps to fit.

I was checking into the colors that dogs can see...........looks like blue and yellow are the best choices

they are red/breen colorblind - or so say the researchers.

blue tarp is easy to find, so blue it will be.

slamdunk, do you remember the diameter of conduit you used, and how sturdy the blinds were?

Sita;

Why go to all this trouble........3- 4x 10 and couple of 2x4 and some fencing will get you a blind........That doesnt cost that much..........And they are permanent.......you are going to alot of trouble.....if your club is lacking funds - build blind 6 then 5 and go backward..........  All the trouble you are going thru in building "temps' you are wasting your money.............
