What is the name for the solid grizzle colors (sable,brown and gray ) and they are solid blanket with no leg markings ? I think they are gorgous I have the sire (these markings ) and the dame is Black the breeder will breed them this spring I am wanting a female she said the sire father  was from Germany. My Saban has a black blanket...jusy curious.

shoalgirl, I think what you are trying to describe is just referred to as sable (no blanket pattern).
some might say dark sable, black sable etc. to denote color.

Are you referring to the bi-colors ?  Solid blankets that go all the way down ?  Roughly similar to the one in my signature ?

Some sables do have a blanket pattern.

GSD colors

1. Sable,
Sable colored puppies




Sable colored adult, (Red Sable) 



Sable colored adult, (Grey Sable)



Sable colored adult, (Dark Sable or sometimes called Black Sable)



2. Black & tan
Black & tan colored puppies



Black & tan colored adult, (or sometimes called Black & Red)



3. Bi-color

More like the Bi-color adult but he is grizzle color the sire from which I want a female puppy from  I have never seen many shepherds with out  some  markings on chest and legs but he is beauthiful.

Here is a sable with tan legs.


That was at 14 months. He is darker now, nearly black on the upper body. Many people think he is blk/tan, not sable.

Kind of off topic but has anyone noticed that more times than not a sable dog will have a black dot on their tongue?
