Thanks Blitzen for posting that. I just finished reading it and sent it to Bec. I remember too when Hatten won the Garden. I never cared much for Mystique but Hatter was the man in my books.

All GSD's go back to the same foundation stock no matter where they were bred, Hutchins. The results are all about the power of selective breeding. I didn't post the link in an effort to try to convince anyone that ASL's are the ultimate; I  don't believe that myself and neither does Jimmie Moses. I just thought some here would enjoy reading it.

Never got an upclose look at Mystique, Vonissk,  but I was at the Garden the year Hatter went Best and that dog was so charming that it was said the worst dog hater could not deny him LOL. He was one of the main reasons that I decided to get a GSD.

BIS AC Ch Covy-Tucker Hills Manhattan ROM

Manhattan "Hatter" was a charismatic black & tan dog with a great show attitude.  He loved to show.  He was 25 inches at shoulder, moderate not extreme in angulation, clean coming and going, very balanced smooth mover.  His upper arm was a bit shorter than ideal and he did have soft pasterns.  He had a gorgeous head, the male version of his mother GVxCh Covy's Rosemary of Tucker Hill ROM's outstanding head.  He is the only German Shepherd Dog to ever win BIS at Westminster, in 1987 at approximately 8 years of age.

BIS Sel Ch Altana's Mystique

Mystique was one of a litter of 3 champions, she went Select at the GSDCA National specialty the same year her litter sister GVx Ch Altana's Kriket went Grand Victrix.  The third littermate was the male AC Ch Altana's Detroit.
Mystique was never bred.  In the later years of her show career, her coat color deepened from black and tan to black and red and her head also became coarser, less feminine.
She held the record for most Best In Shows won by any dog of any breed, 200, when her show career abruptly ended when one of her co-owners, Jane Firestone, died of a heart attack.

Jimmy Moses started out in handling GSD show dogs handling very youngl. One of the early dogs he handled was GVCh Lance of Fran-Jo ROM.   The top winning dogs Jimmy regularly handles are usually very well socialized, familiar with all the chaos that accompanies dog shows,  beautifully groomed, in excellent condition, and are very well trained to gait and stack aka pose for the judge in the typical GSD stance and hold that stance.
Top dogs Jimmy has trained and campaigned heavily often perform so well in the ring they almost seem to show themselves.

Moses learned many of his handling skills in Germany.

He also worked with Wynne Strickland when he was younger. I know they wrote that one book together.
