My 5 month old GSD female is a house dog and the hair isn't the issue
DH has a sensitive nose and complaines about the dog smell.  I finally told him to get over it as it was every day.

Crate is clean and so is the dog.

I have recently switched her over to a raw diet and I am hoping it will help.
The smell doesn't seam that strong to me and the only time I really notice it is around her plastic crate after she has been in it for awhile.

Any types or products out there that help neutralize or cover the dog odor?

Thanks for any tips.

I have a friend that swears by adding a small amount of apple cider vinegar to the food every day. She says it really works for odor.

I love lambert kay fresh n clean.... keeps them shiny, smelling good for very long time without a bad smell and seems to deflect dirt from staying on the dog. I have used this product for over 20 years.

I brush my dogs 3x a week, and keep the floors clean. No problems with smells.

One dog that came in was smelly, come to find out she had a skin infection. Vet perscribed antibiotics and the smell went away in just a few day.

If your dogs smells, something's wrong....get bloodwork, ask your vet about bacterial or yeast infections.

Perhaps. - You should always check out the medical angle, yes,
but its also posssible there is nothing 'wrong' with her;  she may
just have a stronger body odour.  Some dogs do;   like us, nothing
they can do about it, except we can smother ourselves in deodourant.
If thats the case, lets just hope your husband 'gets used to it' so that
he doesn't notice, eventually !!!

Raw may work; if not, I'd say husband may have to deal with it....or not. lol

If it's diet related, and gotten worse since the switch, give it more time, as you may be experiencing a "healing crisis" where any symptoms of less-than-stellar health will be magnified as the body gets strong enough to take them head on. So, basically, stick with it. I would also use ACV w/the mother, not the regular grocery store stuff.. http://www.natural-dog-health-remedies.com/apple-cider-vinegar-for-dogs.html

I second the Lambert Kay shampoos, they smell great and do a wonderful job of getting the dog clean. Make sure when you wash the dog to only use a small amount of shampoo. About a quarter sized blob for each area and break the washing up into sections. Neck/shoulders- body- back legs and tail and do the head last. Wash the feet really good making sure to get between the toes and into the pads of the feet. The most important part of washing a dog is to rinse every last bit of shampoo out of the coat. So i advise rines, rinse and when you think your done run a clean hand under the armpits, belly and butt to make sure you don't feel any soap anywhere. If your dog is blowing her coat use a little conditioner mixed in about a half gallon of water as a rinse and work that into the coat really well. Rinse again and if you have one handy blow dry the dog with a power blower.  Conditioner helps break the static and oil's hold the hair has to itself and you will be suprised how much dead hair come off the dog.
If you don't have a power blower them make sure to brush the dog really really well with a slicker brush before and after the bath to remove old dead hair. With the skin and coat really clean the dog should smell better longer. And soap left on the dog can cause skin irritations.
Personally as a retired dog groomer i find that shepherds and rotties have a smell. Not like the stink of the big scent hound like Bassets or Blood hounds and different yet from the smell of oily labs.
Best of luck keeping your girl clean.
