Hi all,
Quick question:
Would you be giving Yucca Schidigera to your GSD even though he is not showing any signs of joint problems or allergies.
Example: http://www.holisticblend.com/en/health-products/alternative-aids/yucca-schidigera/
If you say - "yes" please specify why?
If you say - "no", please specify why?
Thank you all for your comments.

There are better things for joints imo than Yucca. Most yucca I know is added to dog food to keep the odor of stool down. If you want to keep joints in good health maintain good body weight, build muscle and add Vitamin C which actually produces synovial fluid (the fluid between the joints) to keep the joints lubricated. I believe in helping the body heal and maintain itself instead of adding a bunch of suppliments.

NO: the yucca I tried (Solid Gold) did nothing; I do not believe in just trying things out on dogs, bad idea. I want a proven and positive result that can be seen. Not just a bunch of sales gimmics; JMO Nan

Thank you both for your answers.
So, what kind of supplement (if any?) would you suggest for a generally healthy dog.
I was thinking to provide supplements in order to ensure the continuation of normal health.
Thank you.

Well my best suggestion would be a RAW diet; lots of cartlidge in it with muscle meats, bone and organ meats. Cannot be beat with any supplement. To insure good health, the right amount of exercise, controlled exercise if possible, keep muscled and lean, mental stimulation and again a RAW diet. If you want to add some natural anti inflammatory give Salmon oil, capsules or liquid (i use capsules as it i already measured out) with 400 mg Vitamin E. That is the best I can think of unless it would be to also add 1 tbsp coconut oil also daily. BOL Nan
Pure and simple is my motto; I currently have an almost 14 year old sammie girl and an almost 12 l/2 year old in tact boy. They get raw and are in pretty darn good health for their ages. Nan

I also feed raw and for a suppliment I actually give Trader Joes "Very Green" ( for people) but i think it works well for the dogs. Im feeding hemp oil at the moment because its really high in Omega 3 and 6. I usually feed coconut oil (dog allergic to fish). Honestly havent really noticed a huge difference. The dog getting the hemp oil I got because he has cancer and heard it was good for that but again other than this one bottle havent noticed much in results and its pricy.
I dont personally feel that you need any suppliments other than an occassional herb here and there. Not necessary imo
