my boy has him on both sides i think?, i am aware of problems some people have attributed to him in their lines. i would like to hear from people that knew the dog and know about the traits he throws in his pup's. any comments welcome.

I had a Gento daughter. I didn't like her very much. She was fine in bone and very light in nerves. At the time I was doing the DDR dogs, the wall was still up if I remember correctly. I have a video of Gento doing the object guard. He himself looks very light in nerve,,,,he was popular, but for sharpness. It is way easier to add sharpness to your lines than to get it out. But....that was a time when everyone was looking for quick, fast, drive....and big defense. Nerve strength is an acquired taste....and more difficult to acquire. I gave the bitch away....not a fan.

does not sound dissimilar to what i would expect to hear, like you said different people have different tastes. what was different about those times then when people were looking for that kind of dog as you said, what has changed now to make people change their requirements? interesting to hear from someone that was there. its like real histrory lesson.
i have to admit i am a bit of a fan, i am aware of the things you mentioned tho. he is kind of unknown but well known if that makes sense.
who is the breeder or main owner is he still around?, member.
if i could find that speed and sharpness in a current dog/line i would look at it.
i also want to know more about Robby and see if any current lines have him up close.
i would love the link to OG video if you still have it. thanks for info.

I know VERY LITTLE about working/sport lines except this: In 1993 I bred my mostly german (part American) bitch from my 4th litter to Omar vom haus Antverpa -- (Gento x Iwa Karthago--she was a daughter of Harro v Lechrainstadt. The dam was a daughter of the famous Vasko vom Kirschental - and one of my 16 puppy litter - the first litter of Vasko born in the US.
The Gento grandson I kept certified for hips and elbows -- he was within the standard for size - he was a sweet dog, quick to learn, loved small animals and small children, and up to that point in time - the best male dog I had owned and/or bred. and he grew up to sire 8 litters.of pups - some were mine, some were others - and I think he produced very sound and healthy pups. He developed DM and passed away at 11 years old. He has been the only GSD I have ever owned with DM -- Several of his progeny lived to 13-14 -- and no others developed DM to my knowledge.
Maofryan: -- All I can say is it takes TWO to make a GSD. I give a tremendous amount of "weight" to the abilities of the dam to help put out sound pups. they learn an awful lot from their mom before their eyes/ears open !! I know that.
When breeeders have spectacular pups -- it's their dam that made it happen -- If there are problems - it's always the (other person's) sire that caused them to be sure !!!
