Enjoyed the show and the good atmosphere but would just like to make one observation....Prize money 1st - 3rd, Cards & Rosettes to 4th, more prize money to top winners.......what about all the animals that were graded Excellent?.... Nothing.
Is an Excellent grading worthless these days? The 'also rans' might be more encouraged to stay in the game if something were provided for a good grading by an SV judge don't you think?

I am pleased and proud to say unlike you-none of my successes were dogs bought in from other peoples efforts and traded as your own-all my dogs were trained by me, not a third party-I would never dream of entering under my handlers or trainers or if I was a club committe person, enter my own show like some of your cohorts do.
Luckily I think its all unethical and so never will stoop so low-I guess its down to personal upbring.
Jaymesie51: You must stop hanging on to the so called experts every word and their success( however gained) and start showing a bit of independence in you thoughts-maybe all your backslapping will eventually get you some success, but don't hold your breathe.

Didn't go to the show so can't comment on it, but you have raised what to me is a very, very important point Sproglet. There can only be one WINNER in each class and that is something which cannot and should not be changed.
However the quality of the class and the gradings the exhibited animals would merit should be recognised. Mo said that her 4th place meant something to her, and I for one would be happy to be graded V4 in a high quality class too. So yes please let's have more grading and more recognition that grading MEANS something
On one occasion when I interpreted for Erwin Wieser (Farbenspiel) he stressed to me that it was very important to motivate even the last placed dog to enter shows again - an honest critique identifying good points of a dog, balanced by a remark about points which were perhaps not the best of a dog would go a long way towards educating the owner and perhaps incentivising them to get a better dog next time.
To arrive home with a grading card is much better than arriving home, dog tired, poorer in pocket to an Other Half who thinks we are totally loopy for driving 6 hours to achieve precisely NOTHING!!!!
Let's not forget we were all beginners at one time and goodness knows we need to encourage more beginners to support our fading show scene.

If your friend got a Ch judging appt and you had a winning dog - would you enter the show? my answer YES PLEASE
If you knew the judge liked your dog and he had an appointment would you enter the show - again .......... YES PLEASE
If your club rules allowed you to enter at your own show and your judge was a respected SV would you? YES PLEASE
If a respected judge came to to the UK having given your dog top honours in Germany - would you enter? YES PLEASE
It really is that simple. No rules broken, good animals exhibited, its called a bloody dog show and has always been the same, but the difference is that people werent so cynical years gone by. They wore hats and suits, and called each other Mr and Mrs and anything else they called each other was behind closed doors.
Yes, there is a little cheating, a bit of bending the rules, and sometimes downright bloody underhandedness going on, but you pays your money and you takes your choice. Its not a taxation - its a right to enter, or not to enter, to attend or not to attend, and to accept on face value or not to.....

On another note, I am told that Dog World has set to and given the GSD exhibitors a trouncing for Border Union Dobes disgusting behaviour....... thats what we should be watching not firing friendlies at our own.

Just what are your successes or is this more gosip and hearsay as i said before get a life and leave the people who have this breed at heart to get on with it we dont need your negatives and gosip

Here is a person who is in denial, and more than likely this painful experience has festered and caused him some mental health problems over time. So pencil I suggest for a start you take up the kind and considerate offer from Liz, and then perhaps progress to someone professional in dealing with your problem, maybe, just maybe you can enjoy life to the full once again. Perhaps your therapy could include going to GSD Championship Shows and learning what you should have learned all those years ago. Best wishes.

penny( mo ) can I ask-if i bought a dog off you for showing, and it didn't quite work out-say a tooth missing-could i carry on having FUN as you put it in the show ring or would you try and stop me showing it cos it might blight your reputation.You seem to have a lot to say maybe you could address my question please.

by the way another main reason secretaries should not enter their own shows is BECAUSE BEING SECRETARY they know the entrants and so can decide if they have a chance or not before- hand. if you think that's fair taking peoples money when they dont have the same advantage of whose entered their class.
