Has anyone used a stud that was a german import that the owner was waiting on the AKC reg papers for?  Any idea on how long it takes?  Thanks!

This scenario kinda scares me.....I hope you "know" the owner of this dog and that they can be trusted to accomplish the AKC registry .  I recently transferred my Pink SV papers to AKC and it took about 3 weeks -- I sent it snail mail-- and got the registration back in the mail in just three weeks -- they told me about "4 weeks" on the phone -- so if they are busy -- maybe 4 weeks -- but they are sticklers for their process and everything must be in order to match up that foreign pedigree to THAT DOG-- I hope he is microchipped or if older -- tatoo'ed .I even called AKC because I couldn't get one of the photo's of my puppy to print at their required size -- and they said okay - they would  accept a smaller print --   anyway - the owner of this dog needs to be very aware of every little thing that the AKC requires to  transfer registery --  Even a microchipped/tatoo'd dog requires that you send photos !!!  when I called them on this - and indiated that I could send them photos of ANY puppy -- how would they know? they said they trust me to send photos of the same dog----  and I say that's what the microchip is for !!!  I swear  -- sometimes I think the AKC needs to move into the '90's !!!!

it takes from 2 weeks to 3 months........IF all the correct paperwork is submitted the first time...........

IF all paperwork is correct from the beginning....with Registration, DNA...prob about 3-4 months total.
IF any hold up in Germany.......4 months.... till the cows come home......
Don't freak out (first of all)....as soon as all the paperwork is submitted to AKC......any and all litters can/will be registerable.......patience & time is always needed in these types of cases.
Been there...done that.
Good Luck!

Good advice here already! I would only add that you might call the AKC and get a case worker on it so that they can guide you through all that will needed and in what order it should all happen. That way you know and they know what is going on and what needs to happen. Good luck!

The puppies are 6 months old already.  Im concerned about having to pay the raised rate reg fees on them, and getting the papers period.  Ill have to refund a lot of money if the stud owner dosnt come through with the papers so Im getting antsy.

The last dog I imported took two weeks to receive AKC papers. The litter can be registered BEFORE the DNA is completed by AKC. As soon as they receive the DNA kit from you, the dog is assigned a DNA number, which is all the registry needs to complete your litter reg. The DNA results could come back to you well after the pups have been born and registered, as happened with the last dog I imported. AKc explained to me that you don't have to wait for DNA results to arrive in your mailbox to register the litter.

The last dog (single registration) took 8 days for AKC to complete the registration and to have registration papers in hand.
I don't know anything about waiting for stud registration... wish I could be more help.
