What are you doing, if anything, to prepare for Hurricane Sandy?
we've stocked up on canned goods & water, filled our propane tank for cooking, & filled up our 5 gallon jugs for wash water, all laundry done....& right now Carl's tuning up our old generator. We live on a hillside, I have no fear of flooding, but we lost power for a week after Floyd, the last storm to really bang us hard, so that's what I'm worried about. No prob for our dogs, but for those of you who must evacuate, can your dogs accompany you? I know Philadelphia's Mayor said bring your pets with you to shelters, do you have that option? If not what provisions can you make?
Anyway, good luck everyone!

Don't forget, now is the time to fill some milk jugs with water and freeze them.... so you'll be ready if the power goes out, they'll keep your freezer cold and spare your food from thawing.
I'm doing the same, all the laundry, dishes, vacuuming and cleaning so if the power goes.... we wlll have clean clothes and a clean house.
We are battening down the hatches, in between swim meets. I have to nag the DH to clear the leaves out of the gutters before the storm hits. I'm on a hill so I'm not worried about flooding per se, just if the power goes out longer than three hours with my sump pumps, and the rate of rainfall, the cellar will flood. After all the other week long outages last year, I'm hoping all the aggressive tree trimmings will keep the power on.
Unfortunately, there is a possibility that the kids will lose Halloween again! That would be a disappointment and unheard of...two years in a row!

I went out yesterday to buy a generator. Three different stores all totally sold out, demos everything gone.
At least it's not the dead of winter, in case the power is out for a long time.

I'm not looking forward to thiis, if we lose power, I can tell you that. We never bought a generator either. They are all sold out around here, too. And yes, thank goodness it is not winter. Just have to keep my fingers crossed that we'll be one of the lucky ones. At least DH said most of the gutters are cleared. Said he almost fell off the ladder. I think he was looking for sympathy, but I'm too wiped to give any. It was a sweat box at the swim meet. And I got to do it again tomorrow.
I don't know where you are on the weather map Ninja but I'm not liking what I see.

I'm ready for the apocalypse over here, have been for years. LOL
All I really had to do was board up the windows, timber some of the older dangerous trees, remove 3 fence lines so the horses and cattle don't freak out and kill themselves going through them if one of the barns collapse. We just got finished boarding up windows and cutting wood at old Mrs. Stolfuz place. We have a community breakfast planned tomorrow for everybody up here to discuss emergency contacts and procedures. Bring it Sandy!!! YEEHAWWW !!!

Bee, looking at the projection models we are just a ways off the worst path. Still going to get large wind gusts and torrential rain.
Your area looks like it is going to be right on the edge of the worst portion. New York City may get hammered, and those people have no where to go,
There is a river boardering the back of my business and a dam back about a thousand feet. So I may have other problems.
Not looking forward to this event. LOL
