Ok, I am getting really curious about Nina's DNA, and what her bloodlines are, how do I get her DNA tested? And where do I send it too?
I dont know anything about the DNA process. Just curious, does she have good drive for a ball or toy?
I would suggest AKC, since she was prob AKC reg.
If she is registered with the AKC, you can order a DNA test kit. You can get one free, and send payment in with the swab, or save $5.00 and prepay for it when you order the kit. I think you can get it done elsewhere for more money..I think it is $35.00 prepaid, and $40.00 if you pay with the submission of the swab.
endofthetrail27 is right.
I did it with my dogs. They send you the swabs for free. IIRC there was a limit per order.. like 3 or 5. It was cheaper if you prepay when you order the "free" swabs. The turn around of the tests took around 2 weeks in my case.
Thank you, I will order a kit for her. She has a great ball drive, we found out yesterday that you can put her into down, stay, throw the ball, then release her and she will get it.
I thought you had to have some up front info, like registration numbers, DOB, sire, dam etc. Can you just order the swabs, send them in and if the dogs sire and dam were registered, the AKC can then make a match? Seems like I missed part of this conversation. Can someone post a link to that part of the AKC website?
Ok, I got the DNA kit, and you do have to have something up front. I called and she told me it was a waste of money to send it in without it. So I decided to bite the bullet and call the lady that turned her into AC. (Keep in mind that I am not supposed to have this info, but a caring man at AC gave it to me) I called and the lady told me that Nina came from a breeder in GA. Hund somthing or other, she couldn't remember what. She does have papers, but she don't know where they are and she can't remember the dog's registation info (name, DOB, anything). BUt I got to thinking, and called the vet she used, and found out the DOB. Is this enough to go on?? Does anyone know any body in GA that breeds sables? Red sables? I am finding out how rare her color is, and truly falling in love with it. Any help would be appreciated.
Forgot to add that she said it was an accidental breeding, the man had a working line male that someone got in with his girlfriends show dog. Don't know if that will help but maybe, someone here will know something. The date of birth is 7-28-09
