In spite of the increasing Malinois in sport participation, the number of German registrations
has remained relatively small. Several factors may relate here, lots of Malinois are bred
and sometimes trained in the Netherlands, Belgium or France, the KNPV magazine is said
to have lots of ads by German police agencies seeking trained dogs. Also, although registration
is required for IPO, the Malinois community puts much less emphasis on formal registration,
a dog in this culture is what he does on the field, not what is scribbled down on a piece of
paper.
Long term, the formalities of registration may be becoming less significant.
