what do you know about von arlett dogs?

by NigerDeltaMann on 11 October 2012 - 19:10

Yes, not much, except that they're one of the most reputable, successful and best show kennels that have endured all these years. I don't think anyone here has any reservation about them. I once owned a dog that had their "ulk vom arlett" in its pedigree.

MY current dog has a lot of Arlett on his mothers side and I like him very much.   Haven't found anything he won't try and do.  Very high drives!   Tried emailing Arlett one time but didn't get a responce.   Would love to have a female out of their lines.

We have had an Ulk daughter ,a Ghandi daughter, a Flipp son, I currently have two young Ghandi granddaughters (Ulk is great grandfather). I really like the Arlett line and the fact that Margit is always willing to answer questions I have. I have never had a problem communicating with her, or getting a response from her. She has always been very supportive of my breeding program and what I have done with my dogs, workwise. I highly recommend Arlett kennels. I do caution that there is a LOT of Arlett out there because Ulk was a highly bred dog. I have known several dogs with heavy Arlett in the pedigree, but the female line of the pedigree was NOT a strong line. In MY opionion, the females in Arlett have always been very strong, stronger than many of the males. Unfortunately, many bred the strong females to not so strong males.

@ deeswolf,   interesting, so "stay away from lines with a bunch of females", or if given tha chance"pick from line with male?"

I think I didn't articulate my thoughts well in my last post. What I meant was, in MY opinion, the Arlett lines have VERY strong females. However,  many breeders who had Arlett females, chose, in my opinion to breed those females to males who were not that strong. This is what happens when you breed for conformation and you do not take into account the overall working ability of the dogs.

I suggest looking at some of the pedigrees of some of the successful Arlett dogs, the ones Margit bred, and chose to keep, train, work and show. In those pedigrees you will see strong males AND females. Compare those pedigrees to some breeders who got an Arlett dog and you will be able to see the difference in the breeding programs. Arlett has always had a very clear program, temperament and working ability were more prominant.

Mario, Margit van Dorssen is the name of the breeder. Her kennel name is "von Arlett" and her website address is http://www.arlett.com . There is an English language part on that homepage. Happy surfing. Regards, Walhalla

Margit van Dorssen, owner and operator of the von Arlett kennels.  She will definitely go down in history as one of the best breeders and handlers of German shepherd dogs.  Here is a link of her handling one of the greatest German shepherd dogs of all time, Ghandi von Arlett.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JQzTj-YKZ8&feature=related

Everything said so far is spot on in my opinion.  I would suggest you reread the other posts again slowly and carefully as their words are very accurate.
