I am posting this for a friend who asked me to see what everyone thinks of these hip xrays?
I have seen worse xrays than this one by far, but still I dont think these look to good.

Mild HD in the right hip, subluxation....:((

borderline or more likely mild - left hip remodeling.

right leg is not rotated correctly, cannot tell..

Left hip looks ok. Right socket looks shallow, but the pelvis is tilted and the femur not entirely rotated, so it just could "look" like its shallow. I dont see any remodeling at all in either one. There is a slightly missaligned lumbar (or already tail bone?) ---> chiropracter.
His guts are impressively full.

Suggestion....retake for more acurate positioning.

How old? Was dog sedated? This is one of those close calls that requires a perfectly positioned xray. If this were my dog, I'd have the  x-ray done again with the dog sedated. The knee on the left side of the xray  is not rotated inwardly and the pelvis is not square. IMO not a diagnostic quality x-ray for this dog. I sure wouldn't write the dog off without a better film.

He must be a good eater. Looks like he swallowed about 6 feet of rope.

Due to the fact that the left side of the x-ray (probably the right hip) socket in very shallow and the x-ray does not have the dog in a good position this dog will probably be graded with mild dysplasia.  So sorry, hopefully it will not affect the dogs mobility;  good luck  Nan

Thanks everyone. I was impressed with the full gut too...lol. This is a GSD from a rescue, not sure of the background of the dog. It is a 1 year old male. He has been out to our SchH club a couple times and has decent drives too and an awesome temperment. The reason for the xray was because a couple of us at the club (myself included) noticed that the dog was not moving correctly in the rear. So we recommended that the friend of mine who has the dog have his hips xrayed. I actually thought they would be worse than they are, so I am happy to see that. I noticed that the right hip does seem to be worse than the left. I beleive the dog was xrayed without anesthesia.

lt leg is positioned correctly.  rt leg is not.  knee is rotated out and positioner is pulling down on the leg which makes it appear much worse than it actually is.  once again, draw a straight line thru the neck & head of the femur into the pelvic region and you will see that the line enters the center from the lt---as it should, while the rt ends up far to high which indicates the leg was being pulled down and actually forcing the head out of the socket.
if this dog was positioned properly, i think he? would xray much better.  as far as the dog's movement goes, he? may be in need of a chiropractic adjustment or perhaps the owner may want to have the spine & elbows xrayed as well.

*** the reason for the??? is because the xray looks very much female, but you said it was a 1 yr male.

He is a 1 year old neutered male.

The worst moving GSD I ever owned had the best hips.  If there is no concern about certifying him, I'd probably not do him again.
