I'm trying to learn more about breeding and Health evaluations OFA /AKC etc for puppy purchasing in the future.
If my pups parents have been OFA evalutated then I should be able to find their information here if the breeder allows the information to be public?
http://www.offa.org/index.html
Is there a site to look up AKC registration on a single dog or a litter? If not then I must rely on the breeder to show me this?
DAM Certified Narcotics, CGC, TDI, Temperament Tested, HD/ED/Back-Clear
and I do realize this female holds no titles as the abbreviations may look fancy but it's nothing to write home about this also goes for the Sire.
SIRE Certified and Active Police K9 HDa1 PENNHIP, CGC, TDI
Our pup is going to be trained for Police work and we do not plan to breed. I've learned a lot since the purchase of our dog. I did look up different breeders in our area for awhile and it seems if you are not knowledgeable on where to look or what you are looking for, what's the point? lol Live and Learn :)
I was not aware of this forum until after the purchase of our pup and this forum and it's members have taught me so much and I thank you for that. I'm especially grateful for all the private PM's from many members as we all have to start learning somewhere. Thank you for not beating me up to bad for the mistakes I've made. Let me make it clear we are extremely happy with our puppy at this time, he is an intelligent dog with protective instincts that are just awesome. I would just like to be more knowledgeable in the future. Thanks for any and all information it will definitely be used to help educate myself.

You can look up AKC registration on a single Dog at www.akc.org
you can search for OFA health clearances at the site you posted.

For the OP-
You certainly are not the first puppy buyer to find out
'the hard way' that things aren't always as they appear
when it comes to purchasing from a breeder.
Like most who are involved in pedigreed dogs,
you have likely learned after the fact, and will now
know better for the 'next time around'.
Not all breeders/sellers are deceptive, but way too many are!
At some point and time in the past, even the many many
'veteran' dog owners here will admit to have been baffled
with some bullshit at some point when buying a puppy/dog.
Take the time to educate yourself on what to ask, what to look
for, how to verify information provided by the seller etc for the
next time

you have to ask a lot of questions - but of course - you have to know what to ask !!
reputable breeders are willing to teach novices and give them meaningul information - not jut vaguely answer your questions - but volunteer information and teach you things.
I've heard many "breeders" say their dog is "x-rayed" - sure it it - what that means is it's x-rayed and it FAILED !! x-rayed is NOT OFA CERTIFIED.
and i think CGC/TT/etc are a big deal - as many people don't even bother to do that !!
do not "settle" for some pup that comes along - the right dog is worth waiting for. If you're going to train a police dog - you need to get it from someone who has a reputation for already producing this type of dog - and at a fair price. Every dog I bred that became a state police dog - i GAVE to them - my friends charged as much as $1,500 for the same kind of pup many many years ago. But they guaranteed that the pup would OFA - AND pass the training !!! tht's standing behind your breeding. bigtime !!

We paid $1,600 with a $200.00 discount because my husband is an officer. There is a 2 year bumper to bumper health guarantee on the pup, however if something does occur we have to give the pup back for another. (That's NOT gonna happen) We already love the dog so I've learned in the future if there is a guarantee that we will get another pup for free make sure they will NOT demand the orignal pup back.
I'm not blaming the breeder this was our fault for not actually letting it sink in and double triple checking stuff. We've not purchased a dog in over 11 years wow have things changed lol. We have a retired Police K9 at home who is almost 12. I also registered the pup for Health insurance 90% $100 deductible just in case and that information came from a site member. (Thanks Jenni!)
If you get a limited registration on a pup do you not get a certificate stating so? I have no issue with this as the breeder wants to make sure the hips are good and that we get the dog certified in Police or a Title. :)

THEskridge;
You should get AKC registration with your puppy purchase,
whether limted or full. If it's limited, the papers will say
as much. But, you really need to read your sales contract and
see what it says when it comes to the AKC paperwork.
I've seen on some sites where breeders don't forward even the
limited paperwork until the dog is altered etc. I've also seen where
some breeders charge more for the papers etc. So, really, depending
on what your breeder mandates in their sales contract, you may
be bound to that. All depends on what you signed and agreed to.
This is yet another example of why we buy with 'no strings attached'.
For the record, I do blame the seller, they know who they can take
advantage of when it comes to selling a puppy, who they can baffle
with bullshit etc. The buyer of course needs to accept blame too for
not educating themselves, this doesn't all fall to the seller.
One thing for sure, I bet you have enlightened yourself pretty quickly
as to the do's and don'ts of buying your next pup
