Hi all,

Of all the recue GSD's this is the first one i adopted who has a tattoo.  Never thought anything of it really until another fellow rescue worker traced her rescue GSD's history via her tattoo, and now knows the breeder, her birthday and history.  This got me thinking, can I do the same???

All i know is...  he is a  GSD living in the UK and rescue said he was from Spain????

I contacted the National dog register in UK, they gave me the impression that i was missing a digit for him to be on their database...

so... would he be on a spanish database???

Tracing would be easy if i knew what country he was from!!!Thinking

he has 3 letters KXP and then 3 numerics... is this a spanish prefix?

sorry but all mine are micro chipped so knowledge on tattoos is zilch... any advice please? :)

Needs a fourth NUMBER to be a UK NDTR tat. I think.  Certainly with GSDs cos quite high numbers tattooed.
Don't know what happens in Spain, sorry.
There is a general problem with tattoos in that some individual kennels
do their own, with a unique numbering system, not usually recorded
elsewhere.

Edited to add:  I don't recognise those 3 letters KXP, as from UK either,  or I maybe could at least find the
tattooist's area for you.

Hi, thanks... i think your right, about 4 numerics for UK... as they too gave me the impression that i was missing a digit to be on the UK register.

BUT, must be tracable as pound said to rescue that he was from spain...??? confused!!

Well a dog bred in the UK could have been tattooed and then sold to Spain;  or Germany but I don't think thats a German
number either. (You could try Sabine at the SV, if you haven't yet).  Its grasping at straws but have you tried ringing PetLog ?
Sometimes they have tat numbers recorded with them I think especially if dog is also microchipped ?
Have you ensured you can see all the numbers ?  There isn't a fourth one deeper into the ear that you missed ?
Try cleaning the number with Surgical Spirit.

If I think of anything else you can try I'll come back on here.
Meanwhile,  is there any other clue in what you've been told ?  What made the Rescue say the dog has been in Spain - any hint ?

Australia, New Zealand, and Germany do tattoos like that. Three letters and then three numbers. I think I remember seeing KXP and then a three digit number on a GSD from Germany.

Hi, thanks for getting back to me, only clues i have is that a family brought him over from spain, and then dumped him on a UK family then he ended up at the pound.

he is about 2 years old now and had no training when he arrived 10 months ago...

He had a 'tie' wound on one of his rear legs, and glue lines in his ears (where something was stuck on the inside) (the glue had gone in his lugs :( ) I have been told he looks like he has show lines in him, which poss could explain why they needed his ears to stand (but failed).

My reseach too says germany, Austrailia, new zealand.... but i cannot find anything in spain... in relation to tattoos.

PS...  not missed any digits... shaved his ear and cleaned it and definantly 6 digits starting with KXP :)

I use VHK in my tattoos, standing for Von Hartwin Kennels. Hidden on my front page are all the tattoo numbers of my puppies in hopes if anyone ever did a search on one, it would pop up in the internet search.

I did a search for the tattoo KXP in hopes to find a kennel who did the same. What came up were a few dogs with KXP and 3 numbers. Im not sure if this is a country code or what but more research might help lead you to more info on your rescue boy. Good luck.

Looks like you could be getting closer.  If it were me, i'd post the same question in the Comments
on all 3 ads;  increase chances of it being seen / answered ?
Can I also suggest you PM the member 'Sonora', she spends half her life in Spain and has some
White Shepherds, she may be able to advise you ...
