Just a funny story. I had pulled the throw rugs up off the kitchen floor and my girl Echo does not like walking on the slick surface but she normally will if asked to. I told her to bring me her kong so I could put peanut butter in it. She came to the kitchen threshold with her kong and stopped. She looked around for a rug to step on and whined at me. I told her if she wanted any peanut butter she better bring me that kong. She threw it across the floor and it landed at my feet...about 8 foot away! And didn't she look proud of herself. I was just wondering if anyone else had dogs that would throw things to their people. Deb

Not me but I think that is a clever girl, I think talking and communicating with a smart dog develops certain perception. My daughter talks a lot with one of our dogs and sometimes I feel the dog is encouraging my daughter to keep talking to her, she's a good listener and she obeys my daughter the most.

Both my dogs will throw a ball down the stairs, if I'm in the basement, and they are trying to get my attention!

My uncle had a border collie cross that would make a trough out of its paws, lay the ball in the trough, then push it off with his nose. He'd then chase after the ball. It was his way of amusing himself when there were no humans that wanted to play.

Like most B.C.s he had insane ball/play drive, and if we wanted to play baseball, we had to lock him up in the shed!

lmao Deb, wish I could have seen that!  Next time set up a video cam to record it.

My sable girl (my only dog who doesn't live with me, lives on a friend's farm) is very good at entertaining herself with her toys and food dish.  She will toss a ball, frisbee, stick or her food dish into the air and catch it, or fling it around and "throw" it and play "fetch" with herself, LOL.

One of our boys, Aaron, will sometimes spit or toss his ball at us for us to throw.  He actually tries to aim for our hands, sometimes flips his head up so the ball will go high enough to drop down neatly into our hands.   Have to really watch him and be quick though, sometimes he gets so excited about his ball he tries to grab it back and sometimes pinches fingers, he's accidentally drawn blood on my dad's hands/fingers several times.  (dad is the main ball-thrower, my throwing ability sucks big time.)

Ah yes, I do have one that throws things. It's mostly to herself, or to play keep away from us. We play a game with her nylabone
where we'll tell her in a silly voice to go get her "bone" (big nylabone). She prances over, picks it up and prances just out of reach.
If we get close, she'll toss it to the side or across the other side of the room and pounce on it. If we get the bone, then we hide it
and she has to find it, or we throw it back and forth, so in all reality, her playing keep away is a mimic of our keep away from her.
It's absolutely hilarious and she loves that game :) I love the prance with the neck arched and look at us out of the corner of her
eyes waiting for us to try and get it.

haha, Sunsilver, I forgot that Benjamin does that too!  Before I moved in with my dad and brought my pack here, dad just had his two boys and the door to the basement stayed open (now it stays shut so the girls can stay down here with me and the boys stay upstairs with dad)  Benjamin used to stand at the top of the stairs, drop a ball, watch it thump, thump, thump down the stairs, roll across the floor and when it finally stopped he would run down, grab it, run back up and repeat the whole thing over again...actually very annoying to listen to, LOL.

I've always known the GSD is a smart, smart breed. I'll never forget the time she was downstairs for some time and when she came up I asked her what she had been doing down there. She always cocks her head from side to side when I ask her a question as GSDs will. I was enjoying her head tilting so kept asking her what she was doing downstairs. After about 4 times asking her, she took off and went back downstairs and returned with a shredded rag my husband had left on the floor in the laundry room. Obviously, on her previous trip downstairs she had found it and spent her time rending it to shreds. I am amazed that she listened to my question and came up with the answer. Ibrahim, if you have a dog listening to your daughter that intently, you can bet that dog has an awesome vocabulary and only wants to please her. That is good to hear. Obviously, the dog is quite bonded to your daughter and that is a good thing. Deb

Yes, she will stand 5, 6 feet away with a ball or toy, toss it  up in the air and it will catch it. and throw it back to her.

LOL, sounds like a lot of us have clever dogs. Euro, Echo used to do the same thing with dropping the ball downstairs and playing fetch with herself. After her hip surgery she would drop it and bark for me to go get it. That got old in a hurry. Then she would go down the stairs and get the ball, put her front feet on the 2nd step up and because she couldn't figure out where to put her back feet for some reason, she would stay down there and bark. I thought I'd teach her a lesson and leave her down there. Well, after 10 minutes of listening to her bark (which in a case like this is more of a chirp) I caved and went down and helped her figure out how to work the stairs again. She finally quit throwing it down the stairs...too much effort on her hips I guess and thank goodness...I was getting tired of retreiving the ball for her or having to coax her back upstairs. Deb

My second GSD used to be able to carry 3 tennis balls at one time and as many soft toys as he could stuff into his mouth. He also rolled a tennis ball using a frisbee and could carry the tennis ball using the frisbee like a tray.
