by SitasMom on 07 September 2012 - 20:09
pretend breeding, usually used as a tool to study bloodlines......

Thanks SitasMom, but that does not quite compute. Looking at some kor reports regarding breeding there is a recomendation of "---not recommended for virtual breeding." or "---recommended for virtual breeding." There are some good dogs which use the first suggestion. It just does not make good sense to me and , SitasMom, you can see that your definition does not quite make sense. If it makes sense to you, please go into greater depth. Thanks. ecs

Could you point us to some of these koer reports? I have a suspicion I know what you're referring to, but need to see a sample before I can be sure.

Hexe, Go to winsis-cat.com. This is a pedigree database similar to this one. A little more information, not as good with the pictures and a little different style. But look up Jeck Noricum. He has a "not recommended for virtual breeding"recommendation, but Quenn Lore Weg has a "recommended for virtual breeding" recommendation. If you have any problems let me know. I am not on here a great deal of time so give me a few minutes to get back to you. ecs

I have never seen a koer report using the term "virtual breeding" which means imaginary, just for the info, in some sites which offer virtual breeding, dogs above a certain age can not be used for virtual breeding.

e c street, thanks. That's exactly what I thought you were talking about. Actually, the wording is slightly different than what you've written--it doesn't say 'recommended', it says 'valid'--and the reason is exactly as Ibrahim has described: animals which would be beyond the permitted maximum age for breeding cannot be used to create a 'test' mating, aka 'virtual breeding'.
The application does not, however, automatically flag animals that aren't valid for virtual mating due to the fact that said animal is dead--Winner Assaut's been gone for at least a year or more, yet because he would still be of permissable breeding age were he still alive, the WinSis Cat application doesn't flag him as 'not valid for virtual breeding'--you can still create a pedigree for an imaginary mating of him to your bitch on that site. The application also doesn't flag animals which are underage for breeding use at the moment--only those which are too old for natural service according to the SV policies.

Thanks SitasMom, hexe, and Ibrahim. I think I understand now. Thank each of you for your contribution. ecs
