I never ceases to amaze me when instinct kicks in. Whelpng box has been in place two weeks and only as moma gets closer to delivering does she start to rearrange it. Decided she does not like the cloth baby chucks, so tosses them out of the box. Flat newspapers, nope thinks they would work better shredded. lol She has a shin bone in her area and tonight has decided to bury it under lots of newspaper in her box. Guess to eat after whelping in her instinctive mind. Mind you she is being fed three times a day. Amazing to watch as she redesigns her box daily.
So she is laying there quietly, panting with a ball in her mouth. She takes the ball with her even when she goes into the yard for some exercise. Me, I dealing with lack of sleep and hoping for a healthy litter that goes to appropriate homes.
Enjoying these quiet moments with my female as we begin this journey.

K9sar,
When is she due?
When she drops the ball you will know that she is close.
Good whelping vibes to you both :):)

not all "drop the ball"
one female i have, never dropped, and she had 10 pups.
it was her first litter and she's super fit, the day after having the puppies, her belly still tight, and except for the milk bar she looked as if she'd never been pregnant.
keep track of her temp, day and night. write on a paper.

They mean literally drop the ball...the ball in her mouth.

LOL - thought you refered to puppies dropping....
Lessy brought her ball into the whelping box and up until the first pup came out she kept it in her mouth. She picked up that ball every time she came out of the box for potty breaks and would keep her ball in her box with her puppies. She was a great dog! Loving and always happy.

lol
not all will drop the ball either, one bitch I whelped (some will remember this story) had a toy and no desire to give it up, she preferred her toy over her own pups (which is an understatement.)
